Taiping Guan started in 1860 and is China’s first Western restaurant. In its heyday, it was frequented by noble families, social elites, and celebrities, and became famous for hosting the wedding banquet of Mr. Zhou Enlai and his wife. Taiping Guan has since become a benchmark of Guangzhou, leading the trend of Western cuisine for two centuries!

The current Taiping Guan looks retro and nostalgic. The interior is somewhat dim, with many old photos hanging on the wooden walls. The dishes are still traditional Western cuisine; even the service staff are mostly elderly uncles and aunts. Full of sentimentality! However, there are not many places on Beijing Road(the busiest Walking street in GZ) that have outdoor dining seats. This shows its status in the industry as a two-century legend.

I haven’t been there for a long time and had a simple afternoon tea on the weekend. I didn’t order much, but the experience was quite good; first of all, the service was traditional ordering without scanning QR codes; they answered any questions I had; Unlike the other restaurants, I could also bring cakes from the bakery across street to eat here; then there was the “nostalgia kill” of traditional Western dishes: super-sized soufflé, silky red bean milk tea🥛 , and three-colored ice cream balls🍨 that I drooled over as a child. Every bite was a happy childhood memory.
