Okay okay, I know I already wrote somewhere a couple of weeks back that the skiing season seemed to had ended. But you know how it goes. A gigantic pack of snow falls all of a sudden out of nothing and then it starts to itch SO much that you find your gear again, and decide to go out. Engelberg (Switzerland) was the destination.
Engelberg is super easy accessable by train as by car. I decided to go by train which is about a 40 minute ride literally from my house. Talk about easy access skiing! But exactly because of that this also means that Engelberg gets another category tourists next to just skiers/boarders. Loads of Chinese and Indian tourists go to this summit and see snow in real life for the first time. A very cool sight to see for us people who can access the slopes so easy.
The last part of the journey up (you have to take 2 cablecars) to reach the top of 3020 meters is with a new and super stylish round gondola. And what is even more cool is that this gondola rotates, so everybody has a chance of a 360 degrees scenery!
To be very honest if I should answer the question is this is worth the money? Well let me first start on how you get ripped off. For a whole day of skiing you pay 65 CHF (about the same in $$) with unlimited access to all skilifts on the whole mountain. But if you are a not knowing tourist you pay 66 CHF for a single ride (and how the f%k do you get down then?) of for a roundtrip 92 CHF. Im sorry, but 92 bucks for a ride to the top and back? NEVER! And yes, ofcourse the rotating part is a super cool feature, but this ride takes about 5 minutes. I was more impressed by the technique hanging on the gondola than by the view itself. Okay this might also be, because I am a spoiled mountaineer I guess hahahah, fair enough!
