We all know that we need transportation when we visit a nice city. Often driving a car in a different country which we don't know isn't the most relaxing thing to do. Train, bus, taxi, Uber, E-bike, all options are often better alternatives when it comes to getting around abroad. I am adding one extra to this list
The Lime Electrical Scooter
Exactly, a scooter where you just paddle once to kickstart this thing and then you give gas with a manual throttle on your steer. These babies pick up to 25 km/h, which in my opinion is ridiculously fast when travelling with such small wheels and cobblestones ahead of you.
But why then choose one of these things as a form of transportation. Well because for instance in the city Lissabon, they are literally everywhere! As in you can be on a nice walk, decide that you are fed up with walking, see a scooter, scan the barcode, off you go, and park it at your destination when you are done.
Because that is exactly what this is. You connect your creditcard to an account, and you start with a credit of $10. Everytime that you take a scooter it will cost you a $1 fee and then $0.15 per minute. These kinds of scooters are not meant to use for big and long rides. You should use these scooters when you are in the city and traffic is congested.
When you decide to take a break for a bit, you can pauze your app and you will not be charged while you are not using it. This will also prevent you from paying the $1 unlocking fee again. When you pauze your scooter, the wheels automatically lock, and nobody else can take it while you are eating your icecream/going to the bathroom/ checking your route. I think that is a great feature added in this service honestly.
When you are finished, you will be charged from your $10 credit. There is also a feature in there that your credit cannot automatically get recharged, a huge life safer when you are budgetting your trip.
So would I recommend these scooters to you, you are asking?
Well, I am not sure. It's has its pro's and con's. The pro side of it, is that these scooters are literally everywhere to be found in Lissabon. It is so easy to take one and just ride. Also the app that goes along with it is super easy to use, and it took me about 1 minute to get myself going the first time I logged in. The next thing that is good about it, is the cruising around the city. It's a perfect way of exploring the roads and just to take a good look around.
I do honestly think these scooters also have downsides. One is, as said, that they are able to drive 25 km/h. This is too slow to drive between real traffic but actually it is quite fast on these two little wheels. Also not every road is perfect for riding with these. Lissabon also has a lot of cobblestones which get slippery with rain, and you literally vibrate out your brain when driving over them as well, not very comfy. When you look at the price.....it's not expensive, but an Uber is cheaper, espcially when you are with more people.
Anyway, try for yourself, and let me know how it was!!
