Grigory Ivanovich Kotovsky
Grigory Ivanovich Kotovsky

It's time to talk about the hometown of Kotovsk (Podolsk). A city with a long history. It appeared in 1779. First name: Birzula. But today we will not talk about the city itself, but about Kotovsky.

Grigory Ivanovich Kotovsky is known as the red commander. To be precise, like the commander of the Red Army. He made a significant contribution to the development of the city. It was in his honor that in 1935 Birzula was renamed Kotovsk. In 2016, my hometown was renamed Podolsk.

Despite the fact that Kotovsky was a bandit, he nevertheless made a great contribution to the development of the Odessa region in general, and my hometown, in particular.

This time I won't write a lot of beeches. I decided to make, as they say, “knight's move”. Instead of beeches, I recorded a video.

Many spoke about Kotovsky. He was mentioned in music and films. Eduard Bagritsky dedicated many beautiful lines to Kotovsky. Let's remember the "Duma about Opanas". The poems sound in my, not too professional, performance. An excerpt from this poem formed the basis for "Song of Kotovsky". Composer: A.G. Novikov.

Grigory Ivanovich Kotovsky was born in Moldova. On June 12, 1881, the future hero of the Civil War was born. Kotovsky was killed in the village of Chabanka (this is the Limansky district of the Odessa region). The red commander died on August 6, 1925.

After his death, several cities wanted to become the last refuge of Grigory Ivanovich. In particular, the mausoleum was planned to be built in Chisinau, Uman, Odessa, Balta, Berdichev and Birzul. The choice fell on my city.

Already on August 7, a team of balzamators left Moscow, led by Professor Vorobyov. A mausoleum was built in Birzul, similar to the one where Vladimir Ilyich Lenin rests. 16 years later, the Romanian invaders destroyed the mausoleum. The commander's ashes were thrown away. It is curious that the mausoleum was destroyed on the day of Kotovsky's death. That is, on August 6, 1941. In 1965, the Soviet government restored the mausoleum. Yes, it turned out to be slightly smaller than the original.

Prominent political figures of that time attended the funeral of Kotovsky. Famous personalities include Budeny, Yakir, Egorov and Butsenko.

So, we watch the video, subscribe to my YouTube and "thumbs up". In the future, I plan to pay attention not only to my hometown of Kotovsk (Podolsk), but also to the entire Odessa region. There will be a lot of interesting materials in my blog that formed the basis of one of my books.
