On my hiking trail along the southernmost shoreline of Africa, I occasionally encounter some truly epic spots. It’s all epic when you take a step back and admire the bigger picture, of course. Yet some little spots on the trail are just awesome for stopping to contemplate the moment just there. This little waterfall is just such a spot.
The cliffs are rough and rugged, so very few people are able to access these hidden places. They remain like bits of wonderland hardly ever experienced by anyone, except for the few who make the effort to deliberately wonder into them. I really wanted to share this particular one with you today, as it is like those discoveries that are worth sharing, even if just in picture form.
The light is very bright here with the clear skies, and the little waterfall alcove I found is dark so the contrast made it tricky to capture the impression in photo. Nevertheless, you get the overall impression. Naturally such watering holes are going to make great oases to stop for a while on the hiking trail, so I return to this one whenever I am able to.
Also it’s a perennial stream that only flows when there is enough rain, during certain seasons. Today I was able to capture it at a low point with just a slight trickle pouring over the cliff top just above. Sometimes I’ve seen it really pouring over the edge after a torrential rainfall. And sometimes it dries up altogether for a while.
Such are the ever-changing faces of nature, flowing with the cycles of the seasons. The combination of wide open seascape plus the fresh water stream really makes for a complete picture or setting. That’s why this little spot on the hiking trail is so attractive.
Let me know when you are in the area and I will be happy to show you these hidden hiking trails and the pristine views that they offer. This region called The Garden Route, will certainly brighten up your life.
