With summer now arriving in the Southern Cape coast here on the sunny shores of Africa, it's the perfect time to return to the pristine beaches of this region known as the Garden Route. Supreme gem in the crown of this garden Route region is the town of Plettenberg Bay. This world-class top holiday destination is now filling up has visitors both local and international who flock here to bask in the beautiful sunshine on the white sandy beaches.
With this in mind I had the opportunity to make my way down to one of the more attractive little hidden shoreline destinations known to the locals in this region has Poortjis. This little beach on the shore of the lagoon is the perfect place for young families to bring their small kids. With the very calm Waters of the lagoon, it becomes much safer for families to bring small children who can then build sandcastles to their hearts content, while the water remains completely calm compared to the sometimes wild and surprisingly active sea waves just a few metres away.
This Lagoon is the final resting place for two Rivers known as the Keurbooms and the Bitou rivers. Actually it's not the final destination because from this lagoon the river waters then flow out of the lagoon mouth and into the Indian Ocean, which is separated from the lagoon by a thin strip of a sandbank on the other side of the lagoon from where we're positioned today.
However, this afternoon was the perfect opportunity to meet some locals who had brought the kids to play down at the shoreline. Thus this particular little beach is a perfect hidden gem for travelers who happen to have young families who may wish to travel with their kids to some of the more exquisite beaches which are available here on the southern shores of Africa.
If you love watersports then this Lagoon is perfect for you as you can see. Here at the lagoon shore some kayaks are available for hire and it's possible to take the family out on a little cruise or should I say to go out for a little bit of paddling, using the oars in the single-seater or double seater kayak.
The kids will really love this feature as the waters remain relatively calm in the lagoon and it's possible to see through the clear waters to explore and examine the marine life below the surface.
For those travelers who are more adventurous, athletic and enthusiastic there is also the opportunity to take the kayaks paddling upstream along one of the rivers. This is one of my all-time favourite activities and now that spring is here, I plan to take a trip and a kayak so that I can catch some beautiful photographs of the Inland nature paradise just upstream from here. I'll be sure to publish these photographs in my future blog posts so that you can get a picture of the space here and perhaps be encouraged to grab a flight down to the sunny shores of Africa were you to can take a canoe and go paddling upstream at your leisure.
So whenever you get a chance then do feel inspired to add this particular region known as the garden route to your travel itinerary.
This is certainly one of the most attractive tourist resorts on the southern shores of the African continent and this little hidden gem known as the town of plettenberg Bay is certainly place which you will you will remember fondly for years to come. And it's certainly a healthy environment to bring the kids if you're a young family and wish to travel to these kind of safe yet also picturesque and adventurous regions here on the South cape coast of Africa.
