Spectacular in its entirety, especially because it is one of those geographical accidents that, due to its peculiar characteristics, seem to have emerged from an antediluvian tear in the depths of the earth's abyss, the Spanish Cantabrian coast is a world apart, whose vision, once the vertigo caused by its formidable cliffs is overcome, invites you to let your imagination fly, with unforgettable scenes.
On this occasion, not far from those beautiful and, one might say, peaceful Tinas, the Mayor and the Menor, where the sea extends its embrace inland with delicate petulance and which, in addition, form the natural border that delimits the territories of Cantabria with those of the Principality of Asturias, you can find towns and places of surprising beauty, the magic of whose prodigious aesthetics will not leave the soul indifferent.
One such place is located just a few kilometres from a small town called Pesués, which, having been pushed aside by the inevitable passage of that vital artery, the Cantabrian Highway, languishes, who knows, perhaps remembering times past, although its hostels still benefit from truck drivers and, above all, from many pilgrims, who, being so close to Unquera, replenish their strength there, before continuing their arduous pilgrimage along the Camino de la Liébana and the Picos de Europa.
Some, however, take a detour, heading towards the picturesque fishing village of Pechón, which also has campsites, and all, without exception, stop at the top of a mountain pass, marked by the romantic presence of a life-size bronze sculpture, which, in addition to paying homage to those brave sea wolves that inspired Joseph Conrad's unpublished novels, provides a splendid view of solitary coves, half hidden by vegetation and pierced by mysterious caves, where one can say, echoing the words of the Hindu poet, Rabindranath Tagore, that it is the water that really polishes the pebbles with its dance and song.
