Today, my wife and I went for a short walk to Košutka lake.
It is a flooded quarry for arcosis. It can be found in Pilsen, Košutka, near the old road to Karlovy Vary.
The lake was built on the site of former ponds in the abandoned quarry with a landscaping from the 1930s. After the production was stopped in the surrounding brickworks, the ground water level started to rise in the park. The former quarry was quickly getting hot and the level was rising. The site began to be used as a swimming pool / skating rink.
The rising water level was solved only by the connection of the pond to the sewerage system in the last quarter of the 20th century.
The original stone benches and a commemorative inscription on the rock reminiscent of the park were also under water.
On its bank we can now find a statue of a "little angel", the girl Jaruška, who was pulled from the bottom of the quarry of 2003. I wrote about this event here.
You can use the city public transport lines to reach the lake. For example, line no. 30, stop Žlutická, or line no. 27, stop Skautská.
From thirty we go past this nice prospect. The lake is here in the palm of your hand.
There are many benches and a sandy beach around the lake.
There is also information about the quality of the local water.
We will still look at the opposite rock face, from which sometimes a daredevil, or rather a gambler, jumps into the water ...
Attempt to spring photo :)
And now we are headed to the little angel statue.
And here we have it. This is a statuette of a girl. The restorer named her Jaruška.
Detail of a statuette. This is a copy of the original statuette placed in the park.
Our little walk is over.
Nowadays we cannot travel much, but we can go out into the countryside for a little health walk. Nature will certainly help us overcome these difficult pandemic times.
