Hello everyone, and happy start to the weekend to all Worldmappin lovers! Once again, I want to share a bit about my recent experience traveling abroad, specifically my visit to Rome last October. It's all about the must-see Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum. How could one not visit a place like this? Less than two millennia ago, it was practically the capital of the world, and much of its history remains alive through time, even though today, most of its grandeur lies in ruins.

Nuevamente quiero compartir un poco de lo que fue mi última experiencia viajando fuera de mi país, en mi visita a Roma el pasado mes de Octubre. Se trata de la infaltable visita al Monte Palatino y el Foro Romano. ¿Cómo no visitar un lugar cómo este?, si hace menos de dos milenios fue prácticamente una capital del mundo y mucha de su historia se mantiene viva a través del tiempo, aunque hoy, la mayoría de su imponencia está hecha ruinas.
I remember taking many photos of this place long before I even entered. I walked along the Via dei Fori Imperiali many times on my way to the Colosseum, and you inevitably pass through the Roman Forum, which is also near the imposing Monument to Vittorio Emanuele II. I believe you always pay the same entrance fee to visit this historical site, which includes the Forum, Palatine Hill, and the Colosseum. In fact, I entered here with my Colosseum ticket, but for the following day. The ticket cost 18 euros, which I bought a month in advance, and after my mandatory hour at the Colosseum, I only had until the same time the next day to visit the Palatine Hill and the Forum, as the ticket is valid for 24 hours.
Recuerdo que desde mucho antes de entrar ya había tomado muchas fotografías de este lugar, y es que caminé mucha veces por la Via Dei Fori Imperiali para ir hacia el Coliseo, e inevitablemente atraviesas los alrededores del Foro Romano, que también está cerca de imponente Monumento a Vittorio Emanuele II. Creo para visitar este lugar histórico siempre pagas la misma entrada que incluye el recorrido por el Foro, el Palatino y el Coliseo, de hecho, yo entré aquí con mi entrada del Coliseo, pero al día siguiente. La entrada costó 18 euros, la cual compré con un mes de anticipación, y luego de mi hora obligatoria en el Coliseo tenía solo hasta la misma hora del día siguiente para visitar el Palatino y el Foro, ya que la entrada es por 24 horas de vigencia.

I think I learned more at home before visiting this place, as I read a lot about Rome beforehand. I also knew that my visit to the Colosseum, the Forum, and the Palatine Hill wouldn't be guided, and that I would only have a few hours to explore them, since we were going to the Vatican Museums in another part of Rome that same day. All the stones and fragments that remain standing impressed me greatly; they are thousands of years old. The white marble and the writing on it, in particular, made a strong impression on me. The Roman Forum was the political capital of the Roman Empire, and the most influential people of that time lived on the Palatine Hill. Everything you see in these images is ancient Rome, which stood from a little before Christ until approximately 400 or 500 AD.
Temple of Antoninus and Faustina:
Creo que aprendí más en casa antes de visitar este lugar, y es que leí mucho sobre Roma antes de visitarla, además, sabía que mi visita al Coliseo, el Foro y el Palatino no sería guiada, y también que tendría pocas horas para recorrerlas, ya que este mismo día fuimos a los museos del Vaticano en otra zona de Roma. Todas las piedras y fragmentos que se mantienen en pie me impresionaron mucho, tienen miles de años, especialmente el mármol blanco y la escritura sobre ellos me causa mucha impresión. El Foro Romano fue la capital política del Imperio Romano y en el monte palatino vivían las personas más influyente de ese entonces. Todo lo que ven en estas imágenes fue la antigua Roma que se mantuvo de pie un poco antes de Cristo y aproximadamente hasta el año 400 o 500 de nuestra era.
Church of Santa Maria Antiqua and the Oratory of the Forty Martyrs:
Here you can find the ruins of iconic sites from ancient Rome, some better preserved than others, such as the Basilica of Saints Cosmas and Damian, the Medieval Portico, the Arch of Titus, the Archaic Acropolis, the Temple of Augustus, and even his house. You can climb to the Palatine Hill terrace and take panoramic photos of the area from the top. In short, I'm only scratching the surface of all the sites and museums within the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, and I simply couldn't visit them all because I wanted to see as much of Rome as possible in just one week of work and sightseeing.
Palatine Hill Terrace:
Aquí podemos encontrar las ruinas de lugares emblemáticos de la antigua Roma, algunos más cuidados que otros como la Basilica dei Santi Cosma e Damiano, el Portico Medievale, el Arco di Tito, la Acropoli Arcaica, el Templo di Augusto y también su casa-, puedes subir hasta la terraza del Palatino y tomar fotos panorámicas del lugar desde la cima de la colina. En fin, me quedo corto con todos los lugares y museos que hay dentro del foro y el palatino, y que realmente no pude visitar todas con el motivo de aprovechar todos los lugares posibles de Roma en solo una semana de visita y trabajo que tuve allá.
I can only express my gratitude for having visited such a special place and city. This was a work trip, but I made the most of it, exploring so many important historical sites. Many of them were a dream come true for me, including these ruins, because there's something magical about discovering every detail of places that were once historic. Rome amazes me with the preservation of so many buildings, and here, even though they're ruins, I think everyone is working together to maintain what remains. In fact, I couldn't explore many areas that day because they were under maintenance. When I returned to Venezuela, some of these structures collapsed shortly afterward. I think it's normal for that to happen, so I'm glad I went before it did. Thank you to everyone who reads and supports my posts. I send you all a hug full of love and gratitude 🙏
No me queda más que expresar mi gratitud por haber conocido un lugar y una ciudad tan especial. Este fue un viaje de trabajo, pero saqué todo el provecho posible para conocer tantos lugares históricos y de importancia, además de que muchos de ellos eran un sueño para mí, incluso estas ruinas, porque hay algo mágico en descubrir cada detalle de lugares que fueron históricos. Roma me sorprende por la conservación de muchas edificaciones, y aquí, aunque son ruinas, creo que todos cooperan a mantener lo que queda y de hecho no pude conocer muchas zonas ese día porque estaban en mantenimiento. Cuando volví a Venezuela, poco tiempo después colapsaron algunas de estas estructuras, creo que es normal que pase, así que me alegra haber ido antes de ello.
