Happy weekend and welcome to this wonderful experience I had the pleasure of living in Rome, Italy, practically in the area surrounding Termini station, in the Castro Pretorio district. It's the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, where we had the pleasure of singing, and wow, the place and the acoustics were as perfect as the beauty of the building itself. There's a difference between this and other posts I share on Worldmappin, and that's the number of photos; since I was working, I was a bit limited in my time to enjoy the experience, but even so, I left captivated by this place where I felt so many emotions, because we even sang our national anthem there.
¡Feliz fin de semana y bienvenidos a esta maravillosa experiencia que tuve el placer de vivir en Roma, Italia, prácticamente en los alrededores de la estación Termini, en el Rione Castro Pretorio. Se trata de la Basílica del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, ahí tuvimos el placer de cantar, y wow, el lugar y la acústica eran tan perfectas como la belleza del lugar. Hay una diferencia entre este y otros posts que comparto en Worldmappin, y eso es la cantidad de fotos, como estaba trabajando estuve un poco limitado con el tiempo de disfrute, pero de igual modo salí cautivado de este lugar donde viví tantas emociones, porque hasta nuestro himno nacional entonamos aquí.
Besides the sanctity that Catholic churches in Rome represent, they can also be considered magnificent and beautiful museums. Everything inside is highly symbolic and always showcases art and architecture, so it's a blessing that these are places you can enter for free. Entering the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is like stepping back into the Renaissance, as that style predominates, even from the moment you see its facade. Although there are many interesting sculptures here, the most striking features are the sacred paintings, always highlighted in corners adorned with marble and even in every nook and cranny of the high ceiling. It's wonderful to be there, and everywhere you look, you'll behold art.
Además de la santidad que representan los templos católicos en Roma, también se puede decir que son grandes y hermosos museos. Todo lo que está ahí dentro tiene mucho simbolismo y siempre resalta el arte y la arquitectura, así que es una dicha que sean lugares donde se puede entrar sin pagar. Entrar a la Basílica del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús es como entrar a la época del Renacimiento, y es que es el estilo que predomina incluso desde que vemos su fachada. Aunque encontramos esculturas muy interesantes aquí, lo más llamativo son las pinturas sacras, siempre resaltadas en rincones llenos de mármol y hasta en cada rincón de lo más alto del techo del templo. Es maravilloso estar ahí, y donde voltees contemplarás arte.
Something very important is that you have to look for this church specifically by the name Sacro Cuore di Gesù a Castro Pretorio, because it's not the only one with this name in the city. We didn't get lost by staying near the train station, but we did get confused with another church where we sang in Rome, although that's a story for another post. Another great detail that I loved about this place is the courtyard located to the right of the basilica, which also serves as a parking lot. It's spacious and beautiful and surrounded by other parish buildings. A cool and peaceful place where we had the pleasure of exploring and waiting for our musical performance.
Algo muy importante es que tienen que buscar esta iglesia con el nombre Sacro Cuore di Gesù a Castro Pretorio, porque no es la única con este nombre en la ciudad. No nos perdimos por quedar en las afueras de la estación de tren, pero sí nos confundimos con otro de los templos donde cantamos en Roma, aunque esa es historia para otra publicación. Otro gran detalle que amé en este lugar es el patio que se encuentra a la derecha de la Basílica, que también sirve como estacionamiento. Es amplio y hermoso y está rodeado por otras edificaciones de la parroquia. Un lugar fresco donde tuvimos el placer de explorar y esperar el momento de nuestra intervención musical.
Now that I'm finishing my post, I realize I actually had many photos of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus 😅 Perhaps it was just an impression I got from having so much work that night, but I always take advantage of the opportunity to photograph everything I like during my travels, and I certainly didn't hesitate to take pictures in Rome... It's a city where you can spend even more than a day just visiting Catholic churches; you just have to be aware of the opening hours. For example, this church opens at 7 a.m. on weekdays, closes at midday, and then reopens at 4 p.m. You would have to check their social media for the mass times, as they vary. Ahora que estoy culminando mi post me doy cuenta que sí tenía muchas fotos de la Basílica del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús 😅 quizás fue solo una impresión que me dio por haber tenido tanto trabajo esa noche, pero vaya que siempre aprovecho la oportunidad de tener registro fotográfico de todo lo que me gusta en mis viajes, y vaya que en Roma no me tembló la mano para tomar fotografías... Es una ciudad donde se puede dedicar incluso más de un día solo para visitar templos católicos, solo hay que estar pendiente de los horarios de apertura. Por ejemplo, esta iglesia habré a las 7 de la mañana en día laborales, cierran al medio día y luego vuelven a abrir a las 4. Las horas de las misas sí tendrían que buscarlas en sus redes sociales, ya que varían. En fin, espero que les haya gustado la galería fotográfica de este templo y ojalá tengan oportunidad de acercarse a ella, ya que se encuentra en una zona muy céntrica. Gracias por estar aquí 🙏
