My fellow Lee from Singapore hadn't seen this market yet and the sun was at the perfect place in the sky for taking pictures, noon, so we went for a walk to check it out.
I used his iPhone 8 to take all these pictures then sent them to myself on Facebook where I noticed he was a Lee too. Many of my Chinese friends and students are surprised to see a white guy with Lee as a middle name. I know they wouldn't be interested in American Civil War history, so I just tell them Bruce Lee was my grandpa.
It's rare that I find a bigger troll or someone who cares less than what others think about them than me. Lee hasn't worn shoes for two years. He told me that you know who your friends are when they're not embarrassed to hangout with you despite everyone looking at you in a negative judgmental way.
This cat looks like it's been in a few scraps. Dogs and cats here aren't scared of people.
I forgot what these are called and Google doesn't let you do a reverse image search on an iPad. They look great, but you can't eat them.
Coconuts and Coke are the same price here. I can't drink Coke outside of Laos now. They use real sugar here, but everywhere else uses fake GMO sugar. I'll forget that Coke tastes like crap in America or Thailand sometimes and grab one. I'll just end up spitting it out and wishing I was still here.
It's farmer's market here everyday.
Some of these tangerines look nasty. I'd ask for a discount if I were actually shopping and not just blogging.
Some people look for Zen at temples or in Tibet.
It can take decades, lifetimes, or for some, a few seconds to find Zen. How long will it take you?
Lee bought us drinks made from these sugar cane.
It only cost a dollar and it was in a big cup.
Some of my friends here have bought these hand-made bamboo bags years ago and they still look great.
Lee really liked these little $1 bags. They were made by local hill tribe people using recycled materials.
They'll make great gifts and selling just one for $10 will pay for all of them.
This temple is at the market.
I like the belief that these pagodas work as spiritual antennas.
Everything here is still made by hand. In our modern world of automation and capitalism, it's nice to come here and see things done the natural way.
These Lao Mariachi guys were cool. We sat by the river and enjoyed their music and our sugarcane drinks.
Thanks for shopping at the morning market with us today. Have a Zen day!
Photography Tips:
☀️Submit to the sun! Nothing can provide better lighting than a clear day at noon.
📷Get close up! Make the photos feel 3D by having the camera focus on something very close and show layers of blurred background.
✂️Cut, crop, and delete until you have ten good shots with unique proofread text.
