Just two kilometers away from the Novo Hopovo monastery on the Fruska gora mountain, which I wrote about in my previous post, is the Staro Hopovo monastery. "Novo" in Serbian means new, and "staro" means old, so in translation from Serbian, these monasteries are called Old Hopovo and New Hopovo. The Staro Hopovo monastery is reached by a narrow road that leads through the beautiful landscapes of Fruska Gora.

And then, at the end of the road, you enter the zone of complete peace.

This monastery shares the same history as Novo Hopovo, but it is much smaller and considered one of the smallest in my country.

But even though it is small, it makes a strong impression. It is surrounded by a meadow where visitors sit and enjoy the beautiful nature and silence.

It dates back to the 15th century, but the original church was demolished, and in the 18th century, the present one was built on its foundations. It is interesting that the monastery did not suffer major damage during the Second World War. It was built of stone with thick and solid walls.

A bell tower was built later, which fits perfectly into the environment.

I went inside. I like to look at the fresco paintings inside because it has been preserved for several centuries and has great value.

The atmosphere is intimate and suitable for events such as baptisms and weddings. When I was there, they were preparing for baptism, so I didn't stay inside for long.

I felt good there. The air is very fresh, it's quiet and you can find the peace we all need once in a while. It's a holy place for a reason, I felt it.

Thank you very much for reading.

The images and writing are original and mine.

Greetings!
