There are places that smell of the past and are a real inspiration for all those who like to explore and walk the streets that have been walked for centuries. One of such places is Vrbnik, which I visited a few years ago. My sister is there these days, so she sent me photos to remind me how beautiful it is there and bring back memories.

For me, it is enough to see the color of the Adriatic Sea and it seems to me that I can already feel its wonderful, distinctive smell.

Vrbnik is an authentic small town located on the island of Krk. It is very old, so walking through its streets is a real historical experience.

You can feel the coastal spirit and the culture of the locals who keep their traditions and customs from being forgotten.

What fascinated me the most was Klancic, the narrowest street in the world. In its narrowest part, this street is only 43 cm wide. Vrbnik is a Mediterranean, traditional place with narrow streets within walls and old crumped houses.

It is fascinating how a street can be narrow and yet functional at the same time.

In the early 19th century, Vrbnik began to expand outside the town walls. People started making gates facing outward in their houses and cellars as well as in town walls.

There are several churches in Vrbnik. A favorite among the locals is the Church of our lady of health. Weddings and other celebrations are often held in this church.

Among the oldest churches is the Church of Saint Mary of the Annunciation, although the exact year of its construction is not known.

The bell tower was built of stone in the first half of the 16th century. There is also a clock on it and it is one of the symbols of the town.

One detail in particular caught my attention, and that is the Vrbnik Wheel. It is made of sea pebbles. On the board next to it, it is written that it is not known exactly when it was found, but it symbolizes Glagolitic letters belonging to the oldest triangular type of the Glagolitic script.

This is only part of what this small coastal town has to offer. Vrbnik is a place that inspires with its imaginative architecture, 9-century-old history, and the peace you feel while walking through the narrow streets within its walls or looking at the beautiful Adriatic Sea.
