Hello everyone. I hope you have a nice Sunday. Happy Easter to all who celebrate today.
Yesterday I spent the whole day in a beautiful small picturesque place, "Vrnjacka Banja" or Vrnjacka Spa, located in central Serbia. It is a touristic but also a healing spa-town.
My sister had to go to this place to buy the car she found, and I decided to join her and get away from my city for a while. I took the opportunity to walk around and take some photos while she was buying a car.
The symbol of this spa-town is Gočko The Sparrow. This statue became the mascot of Vrnjačka Banja after Games Without Borders, a very popular television game show in Europe during the 20th century. Gočko is named after the Goč mountain which is located near Vrnjačka Banja.
Vrnjacka Banja is a health resort, popular for its springs of water with healthy features. This is one of the places where healing water can be poured, which helps to cure many diseases.
There are hot and cold mineral springs. Mineral waters from Vrnjačka Banja are also recommended for healthy people due to their curative effects. Based on archaeological findings, these springs were used in ancient times, and the remains of antique pools and terms are preserved to this day.
It is a very old town with a long history and tradition. You can see old buildings everywhere around you.
The river flows through the center of the town. On one side is a walking zone and on the other are large landscaped parks including the Japanese Garden. In such a healthy environment, full of greenery, you can have a great time and a good rest.
You can cross from one side of the river to the other whenever you want because there are a lot of small bridges. One of the bridges is called the bridge of love and is known for the padlocks that couples leave here and thus lock their love to last forever. 🙂
This place hosts the famous carnival as well as film festivals, literary evenings, and other cultural events.
Here you can buy various souvenirs, domestic products, paintings, "licider hearts"...
"Licider hearts" are gingerbread or honey cakes. They have always symbolized affection and love. It's an old custom. By giving it to someone special you can show that person how much you care. 🙂
You can also buy "opanci" here, traditional Serbian shoes that people wore in the old times.
Since this place is known for healthy food, I went to the open market to buy some fruits and vegetables.
When headed back to Belgrade, where we live, we stopped in Čačak, a city in central Serbia to have lunch, as this city is known for its good restaurants. Below you can see some photos from the center of this city.
I liked the houses with large concrete yards. They have some peace.
And we finally arrived at the restaurant. 🙂
The restaurant is decorated in a traditional style. On the wall are "opanci" that I mentioned.
We ate veal soup. If you ever come to this place, you must try it. In my country, soups are eaten very often.
In the end, I can say, it was an honor to spend the day in Vrnjacka Banja as it says on a shop window there.
Thank you very much for reading.
The images and writing are original and mine.
Greetings!
Jelena
