Hello Hive people, I hope you are doing great and enjoying your summer trips and vacations. Travelling gives meaning to life and sometimes it seems to me that I live from trip to a trip waiting and dreaming about new experiences in different destinations.
After a wonderful vacation in Poreč, Croatia, I went to Stavros, Greece with my family. We have many friends in Greece and we do not miss the chance to visit this hospitable country whenever we can. Stavros is a cheap destination and always convenient when you are not able to spend a lot of money. It is a coastal town that you either like or don't like at all. 🙂 When I visited Stavros for the first time 15 years ago, the first impression was not promising that I would like this town later. But when you meet the wonderful people who welcome you every year with open arms to hug you, you can't help but become emotionally attached to this place. 🙂
Stavros is considered an air spa because of the wooded mountains that surround it and the currents of winds that provide a pleasant feeling, especially during the great summer heat. Whenever I stay in Stavros, I like to go to the viewpoint from which the whole town can be seen.
In this place, there is a restaurant where you can enjoy Greek delicacies overlooking the sea.
Or you can drink coffee in the garden and rest your eyes.
The viewpoint is located in the old part of the town (Ano Stavros). This is an authentic part of the town where you can meet very old people who have been living here for years. In the morning, this place is empty because everyone is at the beach or home, and the city starts to come alive in the evening.
What particularly caught my attention were the painted and decorated flower pots all around.
Many tourists never even find out about the old part of the city, spending their daily time in the heart of the action, on the promenade surrounded by cafes, shops, parks, and restaurants. We also spent the evenings wandering around, on the promenade. I love the summer spirit, the taverns where you can hear the chatter of people and loud laughter.
When we are in Stavros, we like to eat gyros and souvlaki at a favorite street food restaurant called Piatsa.
I love their decoration with pots and kitchen items hanging above.
Both gyros and souvlaki are very tasty here, but I prefer souvlaki. 🙂
Greek food goes well with traditional Greek alcoholic drink tsipouro or "grapa", made from grapes and it is especially good when it's cold. 🙂
Stavros is an old town with very old trees.
Sometimes it seems too quiet until the evening when everyone moves from the beach to the center of all the happenings in the town. Once, during a walk, I saw chairs on the dock by the sea and found out that a "sardine night", an event organized by the municipality, was being prepared.
In the evening it looked like this. A lot of people gathered and along with the music program, everyone got a portion of sardines and mussels. They were delicious.
I love sea flavors. It seems to me that everything is tastier at sea, fruits, vegetables, everything. Every Thursday in Stavros there is an open market with a large selection of fruits, vegetables, olives, fish, honey, spices, and other products.
Early in the morning, fishermen sell fresh fish on the dock.
Greeks are a religious people, so there are churches at every turn.
And there are flowers, lots of flowers everywhere. I love colorful environments so I enjoyed photographing them.
Stavros is a pleasant place to stay. It has a soul and I like places that have a soul. And what is written on the board at the entrance to the town is true, "We have a good time here." 🙂
In one of the next posts, I will share with you photos of the beach in Stavros. Thank you very much for reading.
The images and writing are original and mine.
Greetings!
