Lockets of Love on the boardwalk, Thessaloniki, Greece

Hi Friends,

Locks...

When you see a fence with a lock on it, you might assume that the property it surrounds is off-limits. But what if the fence surrounds a property that the owner never intends to open? Locks on fences can serve as a deterrent to criminals, or they can be used to keep people out of a property that the owner never intends to open.

It is true, that when most people think of padlocks, they think of security. But can a padlock also be a symbol of love? There is a growing trend of using padlocks as a symbol of love. Couples will lock a padlock to a fence or railing and then throw the key into the river or ocean as a symbol of their love. There are even companies that make padlocks specifically for this purpose. So, can a padlock be a symbol of love? I think yes.

Here in Thessaloniki, Greece, there is a section of the waterfront that has a fence, and on that fence is a bunch of locks. Lockets of love... perhaps they call it that? The title I am not sure about, but it is an interesting sight to see.

In the last few days, when out on a walk, this sight caught my eye. Today, the sun was setting. I was in the correct place at the right time, so, out came the camera and here are the photos.

Location: Just south of the White Tower of Thessaloniki

Love is like a lock because it is something that can be opened and shared by two people. It is a feeling that can be locked away and shared between two people.

When you love someone, it feels like you have the key to their heart. You can let yourself in and out as you please. But, if someone else gets their hands on the key, they can unlock the heart and let themselves in, too.

What's more fun than tossing away a key for a lock of love? Nothin'! Especially when that key is the key to your heart!

But then, just perhaps, there's no need to toss away a key when you have a lock of love. A key is useful for unlocking things, but a lock of love is even more special because it's used to keep your loved ones close. So don't discard your key, keep it close to your heart and use it to unlock the door to your loved one's heart.

Locks... It can be a way to secure something or someone. It can be a symbol of love or commitment. Locks can be simple or complex, but they all perform the same basic function. They keep people and things where they're supposed to be.

What happens when we put too many locks on a door, and we can't open them anymore? We lose ourselves in the process. We forget who we are and what we're fighting for. Sooner or later, we have to find the key and unlock the door... this is all metaphorical for all these locks.

The ocean behind the lock means too much for some. For people like me, it's a beautiful sight that calms the soul. It's a place of refuge where I can find peace and solace.

Locks... lots of locks... it is fun to look at them all and wonder about the story that led them to this point. If the ones who put them here, are still together, and if it still holds meaning.

Annnnnnnnnnnd to wrap up, here is a non-lock photo of the dock. :D
