The replica of the Lori train set up in Kayutangan is there for a reason—it’s a reminder of the area’s long history, which used to be traversed by tram lines. This tram route, built by Malang Stoomtram Maatschappij around 1903, was once the backbone of the city’s economy. Even though the six-kilometer track from Blimbing Station to Jagalan was closed in 1959, traces of it can still be found on Basuki Rahmat Street. This monument now serves as a historical icon and a tourist attraction.

"Feel the Historic Charm at Every Corner of Sarinah."

Back in 1947, the building used for the KNIP meeting was burned down as a guerrilla warfare tactic. A year later, it was flattened and replaced by what we now know as Sarinah, the first shopping center in Malang. The name Sarinah, coined by President Sukarno, means "servant of the people," reflecting the hope that this state-owned enterprise could serve the community well.
