On Sunday I was in the area of Lake Garda from the Veronese shore and then Passing from the town of Costermano which borders the town of Garda I took the opportunity to pass by the German military cemetery of Costermano.
I wanted to take some photos because the peculiarity of this German military cemetery is the fact that where the soldiers were buried, a plant that blooms in spring and autumn was planted.
And can you give this place something that is a hope for the future In fact I also wanted to do this post a little bit about the war situation we are going through in Europe and coming to these places makes you understand what war creates, just death !
However this is one of the many German cemeteries that there are in Italy where the dead of the Second World War were buried in Costermano approximately 20,000 German soldiers should be buried and there are also officers.
However, it is really impressive because there are so many and perhaps just by coming here you realize what twenty thousand dead people mean.
Yes there is also a small chapel that I think from how I understood that officers should be buried here it says that there should also be some of the SS but most likely they keep this thing anonymous precisely because there is no vandalism.
Of course, being in the Protestant cemetery, the graves are very simple and there are no photos, then we must also understand that many of these soldiers come from various places in Italy.
I was very struck by this sentence that these places must be a warning to peace and friendship between peoples so many people should occasionally take a tour here to understand the importance of peace.
This cemetery was completed and opened to the public in 1967 and practically overlooks Lake Garda in a green and hilly area.
I think it is open every day of course the entrance is free so if you happen to be here I invite you to take a tour here because it is still a very touching place in the soul.
This cemetery is maintained by an association of volunteers in some tombs I saw that there were garlands probably every now and then some relatives come here, the schools should bring the children here, to make them understand what causes the war !!
