Lonigo is a city that rises between the Berici hills and is crossed by the river Guà, during its history it was governed by Vicenza, Verona, Padua, by the Visconti and finally also by the Republic of Venice.
But Lonigo was an important showcase for the architect Andrea Palladio who built Villa Pisani here, for one of the most important and influential families of the time: the Pisans.
The history of Palazzo Pisani is covered in mystery because in reality it is attributed to Palladio, even if in those years Palladio was engaged in other projects in Rome, so it is also partly attributed to Michele Sanmicheli, another important architect of the time . The building, as you can see in the photo, is made up of two parts, one naturally central and the two lateral ones which were built later about 200 years after the central part, the main part is this balustrade staircase, which leads directly to the noble floor. of the building.
Currently the building is the seat of the Municipality of Lonigo and is used by the same for events or exhibitions in the Noble rooms.
In the main square of Lonigo we find the keep tower, the one that remained from the castle that went into decay and was destroyed over the years and the Cathedral was built there, with a facade reminiscent of the church of San Zeno in Verona.
the cathedral was built as Thanksgiving by the faithful for the end of a nasty plague that had hit the city of Lonigo causing thousands of deaths.
Another important point of interest in Lonigo is its theater named after Giuseppe Verdi, built in 1892 in Piazza Matteotti.
Even today the theater is active and actors from all over the world come here, but also many musicians to perform.
in this beautiful park that you see above has always been held from 1486 to today, the famous fair of Lonigo also known as the horse fair, an exhibition and trade of horses, but also of agricultural vehicles and anything related to agriculture.
Then over the years, it has evolved with clothing and things for the home.
This place remains the green lung of the city, which is used by many residents for physical activity.
I managed this fall to shoot a video of Lunigo so that I can better explain where their tourist points of interest are, I leave you below.
I hope as always that this article has made you discover a new place in Italy, those lesser-known places that are worth discovering because they always have something characteristic.
