This Wednesday in the city of Bangkok i decided to walk along the Khlong Saen Saep Canal which is known as “The Venice of the East”. It's a long canal that runs from the East to the West and along this canal you will see the lifestyle of the real Thai culture and the old city with the new city.
The Khlong Saen Saep Canal is very handy, vibrant and exhilarating. It's used for public transport by an express boat service in Bangkok for commuters traveling to and from work. The canal is 72 km long canal and passes through 21 districts and connects to more than 100 smaller canals.
I took the boat from the Chid Lom Pier after a short walk from the ChitLom Skytrain the cost of the express boat was less the 1 US dollar which took about 30 minutes including stopping at other piers to get to my destination call Phanfa Leelard Pier.
When you get to this Pier you are near the Grand Palace of Bangkok but i didn't want to go into the Grand Palace i just took a short stroll around the outside had a look at this Temple cause it looked interesting but my plan was to walk back along the canal towards the pier i took the boat from originally.
The view from the top of this amazing gold Temple.
After climbing to the top of this Temple and seeing these breathtaking views of Bangkok i had decided to walk over to this park that i saw from the top floor of this Temple. I could see some huge trees that looked interesting to have a look at.
And i wasn't wrong check out this crazy twisted up Banyan Tree.
After looking at this crazy twisted up tree i headed back to the canal and started my walk along the pathway of the canal immediately i was starting to take in the beauty of the old Bangkok and how the locals live along the river.
The Bangkok's charming canal is brimming with stories to tell. Walking along this canal will give you the opportunity to experience a peaceful riverside atmosphere and to see a more traditional way of Thai life up close. You will be delighted to discover such a level of tranquility as you walk past these enchanting wooden homes with beautiful orchids inviting you along the way.
Many interesting old wooden bridges to be see and coming up to this railway line bridge i was actually told had to go through the local district area to get over the other side but i found a alternative way and ended up on the train line just in time to catch the train coming that was a bonus.
Once crossed over the railway line bridge i was back on the pathway of the canal and at this stage i had already been walking for 4 hours and was seeing a lot of abandon houses with some amazing Graffiti painting on them like this one.
This abandon house actually looked quite spooky inside.
Lost of Graffiti painting were also along the walls of the canal which made the whole atmosphere a lot more vibrant and interesting as you walked along the canal.
Along this canal you will find a lot of local Thai stalls were you can get to eat some of the best local Thai dishes but if you prefer a beer , cocktail or coffee they are a few more trendy internet cafes that you will also find walking along this canal like this one called the Yelo Cafe.
Well the afternoon had flown by quite quick and there was still much more to see i had probably walked about 6 km or more from the Phanfa pier and i was still a distance away from the pier i had left from so i decided to take the boat back i had down enough walking and my feet needed a break plus it was getting to peak hour and you don't want to be on the canal when all the thousands of daily commuters appear they pack them boats like sheep trains already the boats were starting to look full.
They have a huge V8 diesel engine and they fly along this canal at great speeds amazing to ride and amazing to see.
Lots of construction of new condominiums and office buildings going on along this canal it's becoming a expensive real estate and trendy.
*Once i am back at the Chid Lom Pier i walk along the above ground walkway bridge and head back to the Skytain but i figured my feet were sore and i couldn't do anymore walking after 5 hours of walking so i jumped into the "Boom Box Tuk Tuk" and i said to him Tuk Tuk take me home and get that music pumping...lol :)
