It's 2511 Km from my house to Miradouro da Ponta do Sossego, and I'm planning another trip just so I can go and have a BBQ. I actually accidentally came across this place one day, we were on our last day in Sao Miguel and decided to drive along the east coast road, as we'd not been to that part of the island.
The viewpoint is on the far east side of the island, occupying a high position on the cliffs, a few mile south of Nordeste. The local authorities built this place as a place to go and enjoy the views, whilst cooking yourself some fish or meat on the BBQs provided.
It's a beautiful location, absolutely stunning, with well tendered gardens, and amazing flowers that you don't see everywhere. There's space to mingle, places that are more secluded, and places to party i'm sure. Each BBQ station is setup with a supply of wood, food preparation areas, and even some wood provided for fuel. It's really an amazing setup.
Unfortunately, we didn't know about this, we arrived with a couple of bottles of water, and some bread, salami, and a few tomatoes. It was enough to eat, and to enjoy the view, but we just knew there was another experience that could have been.
But...I'll be back, as Arnie says in The Terminator, and this time I'll be armed with some meat, fish, and a couple of cold beers. I'll have a full belly and a spectacular view. One day hopefully soon...
