Ruta de las Flores. El Salvador

The Ruta de Las Flores is in parts a pretty road to travel, it is only about 20 miles. There are five main towns on the Ruta de Las flores, Apaneca, Juayua and Ataco are ones I got to see. Today we visit the first two of the above. Ataco has its own uploads as I went shutter mental, what a wonderful little town....Anyways

A quaint little one horse town, so sleepy it has nothing of note about it to be honest.

I guess the claim to fame is it is the second highest town in El Salvador, and has a cool climate

It seems to be a stop over place for visiting other attractions in the region, so there were many foodie places, but as that was not on the schedule, I walked around scoffing Lays Spanish Tomato flavour crisps, luckily for me they were only available in big bags.

Have you tried them? Lays are seriously the Numero Uno producer, in my opinion, of potato based snacks, comfort food, finger lickingly good.

There were many handicraft stalls, shops, displays selling all sorts of Tat wonderful local artefacts.

Though in fairness the hand painted efforts were very impresive

A handily placed podium allowed me to try and get a clearer shot of a tile mosaic, and that was it, home James and don't spare the horses.

In one form or another this friendly little town has been around since the 16th century; in 1550, its population was estimated at about 300 inhabitants, no I don't know how they get that number either.

Set in the mountains and volcanoes there are some amazing views

Came here on a Saturday, the best day, as there was a thriving market going on and more importantly every weekend they hold La Feria Gastronomica

A short stroll to build up the appetite, we can come back to shopping and stuff with a full belly, my nose is picking up the heavenly scent of BBQ!

Who needs a menu when there are example plates of what is available set out in front of each stall

A wide variety of salivating platters for everyone. I made my choice.

The chips were luke warm and greasy, perfect; the bun was toasted, the patty moist, succulent and smashed; onions, tomato and pickles I am in foodie heaven.

Not forgetting the local ice cold beer

The produce brought to the town from local villagers

Known locally as Iglesia Cristo Negro, due to its statues of the black christ

The church has been rebuilt twice. The first was built around 1557 but was destroyed by an earthquake.

The second church was made out of wood and was destroyed by a fire. This final incarnation was built in 1957.

Either the Polish Pope is still popular round here or someone has a shed load of candle holders to get rid of.

Cameras are in my opinion works of art in their own right, the greater the vintage the greater the love for these fabulous things.

This projector is simply gorgeous, probably ownly worth thruppence, but what a statement piece for an interior designer to use.

Just staring through the window of this sadly shut shop was like being on an urbex adventure, so much treasure
