Today is the day to get some swiss quality blogging done. It is not my first time in Switzerland, although it is first time I have ventured out of Zurich. Sweiz is so expensive one is almost better off coming in and out everyday, not sleeping over night. Yes, one night in a hostel in Zurich costs around 50 franks. That is the price to pay for luxury that Switzerland offers...
But today's blog is not about Zurich at all. This time I have spent about 20 minutes in the city. We will be heading to Graubunden - the oldest kanton in Switzerland, with mystical vibes and interesting traditions. In German it is called Grisons, which to me sounds like the bank from Harry Potter. By all means one feels the ancient smell of money and secrecy around.
Wouldn't it be an article about Graubunden (Grisons) without a photo of a bank. Credit Suisse in the old town of Chur.
Just imagine what must be underground, below this old, fancy looking building. But we are getting further now, into a holiday resort called Laax, where I will be spending a summer working. Yes life is about compromises and I just made one recently. Trading my freedom for what is to be best paying country in Europe. Well, let's go right?
I have arrived few days before my first official training day and thus I had lots of free time to explore the surroundings. One can call this area "Grand canyon" of Switzerland as the river Rhine flowing through massive gorges takes their pieces all the way to the Black sea.
Rhine is the only river in Switzerland that has it's delta in the Black sea.
My first wanderings were mostly about "hunting" for food. You know, that kind of a modern hunter, who instead of chasing gazelles, runs around supermarkets, looking for the cheapest groceries. Luckily there are not many choices here in Laax and my hunt was pretty quick. Which than left me plenty of time to go for so called "content hunting". In the digital age our cameras, combined with activity and creativity are the modern hunter/gatherer's tools of choice. So what did I find you ask me?
This amazing viewing spot, from which nearly 180 degrees of a panoramic view was possible.
The village Sagogn sits in fertile valley, created by a massive landslide some milion years ago.
Switzerland is famous for it's natural beauty and resources. Yes the glaciers might be melting, but down the tree line (which divides livable with extreme survival) fertile land is showing of some of its best examples. There is even hundreds of orchideas to be found. Really, just about everything shows clear signs of prosperity. It is almost unbelievable. Seems like this place was really created to be unequal with the rest of the world. No wonder Switzerland is also the birthplace of tourism. It's beauty is stunning and it looks like that the locals are taking good care of the place.
Botanical garden of world class within the reach from your apartment and free off charge? That is Sagogn.
Laax is a place of contrasts. Where old meets new, natural meets human and where the clouds meet with the ground.
Truly modern all year resort, with top notch equipment and facilities meets absolute natural wonder. Just have a look at some of my pictures from the village/town itself. Now we are of course miles away from "nature" but the gardens and overall vibe is still pretty forest like, even between the apartment houses and hotels. After all aren't we as humans part of nature?
High contrast alpine town of Laax, Graubunden, Switzerland.

All the best,
