When my days in Dominical were numbered I had only few options of where to go to. Either straight to San Jose or one night layover in Jaco. It would be a pity to miss a chance to discover yet another beach town while in Costa Rica.
Slightly more expensive than other places I have visited so far Jaco was good option for just one night. I am not looking for long nights out this time around, but I just felt the need to investigate a little.
I jumped off the bus when approaching the center in very close proximity of few hostels I knew were cheap. Having no reservation I have ventured in first of them asking for their price first. There was some city tax involved and they were actually in the range of better looking one maybe a kilometer away which also offered breakfast and terrace with great view.
After a well deserved shower I've headed to the beach first. It is quite a long one and the whole town is more or less a street parallel to the beach itself. So I would go one way through the sand and on the main boulevard on the way back.
I was really surprised how many diverse activities the beach provided. You know some places are more than boring. A beach bar and bunch of sofas to lay around. But here it was different. Fishermen and surfers were taking advantage of the water and others who opted to stay dry were playing football, selling drinks and observing the circus around them.
Honestly it could have been much much worse. I was expecting the town with it's famous nightlife to be the highlight but in my case it wasn't.
Sunset at the beach was great, but I still needed to buy some food and catch the last bits of light for photos of the city as well.
A city is surely a strong word for Jaco, but as it is slightly bigger than the other beach towns I have so far visited, let's call it that way.
It was probably still too early to see some nightlife action, but to be honest I haven't really seen that many clubs or bars around. A lot of people tried to offer me weed, that is for sure. Girls on the streets were shouting massage, massage and I felt like a proper gringo. Well in a way I am I guess, but I haven't fallen into any of those traps this time around.
When I came back a German girl arrived and I did the same route one more time with her during the night. The city was pretty quiet still even around 10PM. So I guess it might be the fact it is off season now.
Another round of drug dealers and massage offers and we were done for the day. In the morning really nice breakfast landed on the table and it was time to catch the bus to San Jose to catch a flight.
