"You can see the Sloth there" said the hostel owner when pitching me the idea to go explore the Biezanz beach. That itself sounded interesting plus it was the last beach I haven't discovered yet.
Nature and wildlife in Costa Rica is truly spectacular. Its central location between both north and south American continents and special climate provides ideal conditions to many species otherwise no to be seen elsewhere.
So I was in on it - off to Biesanz.
Its slightly remote location saves it from hordes of tourists and hence there are places where wild animals nest and live. The entrance looked more like a hole in the fence than a door or a gate - exactly how I like it.
I would be the first visitor that day wouldn't it be for local beach workers setting up their shops. Also bunch of runners took me over while I was making pictures in wow mode...
Termites were busy working their way up the roots and rocks of the pathway down and humming birds were enjoying the exotic flowers all around.
The path was well maintained and locals provided multiple services such as showers or beach sofas. I wasn't there for any of that though. Some exercise and swimming does the job for me. Than I sit and observe the unknown bird species and try to spot a sloth.
Wasn't lucky on that one, but very soon a big bird landed near me. Unfortunately he is blending with the environment so good he is almost invisible on the picture...
After reading for a while some other people arrived and the place slowly started to loose its magic. I was also planning on moving forward with my journey and leave Manuel Antonio.
I knew there are two ways out of the beach and luckily to me I took the second one this time. At some point there was a path leading to the jungle and I said to myself if not now then when - let's go and "hunt" those wild mammals...
I went there with a feeling that I should be able to see some more animals than from the beach. And surprise, surprise, I did. A group of white face monkeys were feasting there on some sort of a nut tree. What a pleasure to be so close to them. They also carried babies on their back and I knew this would be a highlight of my day. Seeing wild monkeys for first time in my life...
Afterwards I have successfully found enough mango's that had fallen from the tree and headed back up to the hilltop to reach my hostel.
This little wildlife hunting adventure closed my four day stay in Manuel Antonio and I was off to new adventures more down south on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica.
All the best,
