Now thinking about it, Harry Potter could have been easily filmed here, you know, that place where they got all those magical sweets and stuff. I have always imagined it pretty similar to Göreme at night. Splendid streets seemingly going nowhere or at best in circles. Tiny corner stores offering everything, yet nothing useful, just like that village form Potter...

Let's start today's blog with the cheapest tea in the country shall we? The fact that Cappadocia is not a cheapest of places is well known between seasoned travellers. Even though now it provides somewhat discount compared to the high summer season, one still needs to watch out a little. You can easily spend five times more for the same product or service if you open the wrong door. As happend to me on the first day. I have spent about 15 TRY only to find out that in a teahouse next doors offers the same for 2 TRY. You do the math...

There is really no shortage of wow moments in this little mountain town. In one moment you walk next to bunch of wild dogs and next you see American cabriolets covered with fresh snow. As surreal as it gets really. Plus the whole thing is set in what is one of the weirdest landscapes ever. The formation of it all is dated to few milion years ago when some sort of Vulcano pushed the whole center of Turkey upwards. There used to be a sea before that, hence the layers of sediments cracked and flushed away by heavy rains over the years created this awesome structures.

Humans than took advantage of these "prefabricated" homes and dig out cave-homes of great looks and practicality. Imagine you arrive here few hundred years ago and the only thing you need to shelter yourself is a shower. Pretty easy right. The whole area served also as kind of refugee camp for various religious groups and outcasts, throughout the last milenia.

If you have a chance to visit Turkey, definitely don't overlook Cappadocia, it will quite likely end up the highlight of your trip. I have spent total one week there, but I travel slowly and at the moment I also have all the time in the world so my case is different, but generally I would recommend three full days in the area.

All the best,
