Staglands Wildlife Reserve & Café offers visitors a unique and exciting opportunity to connect with nature in a beautiful, natural environment. You can feed and freely interact with wildlife in this very special place and a ‘must-see’ attraction for local families and tourists visiting the Wellington region.

Whatever your plans are, school or group visits, picnics, BBQ’s, celebrations events or if you are just looking for activities to do with your family and friends, then this will be different from any animal farm, parks or Zoos you ever been.

There is also Staglands cosy café - a stunning log building with an open fire, outdoor seating, BBQ/picnic area and a sumptuous menu.

Enjoy and Experience Wildlife

It's so easy to get there!

This is less than 1 hour of travel time from Wellington centre city, just head straight otherwise you will have indications. Check the map, it's super quick! And in the way as a bonus, you get to enjoy the New Zealand natural beauty.

They also have very accessible prices and special rates for families, groups and sometimes, special events so, do make sure to check their website before you go.

For how long to plan

It will depend on how much you wish to stay around either having a relaxing experience with nature or enjoying the joy of the wildlife. Personally, I would say that an average visit would be between 2 and 3 hours.

Wise to bring

Prepare yourself, this is New Zealand. It can be an amazing day, but in a glimpse of an eye, it can start raining without you noticing it. Windwise it can become somehow windy too, but not too often to become unpleasant and a problem.

A normal coat or waterproof comfortable raincoat would do if you see any chances for clouds. Otherwise, if there's no wind and it's sunny, I will bet you will have an amazing experience!

What else?

You might wish to bring a snack with you or try the amazing café. Both options are ok, as long you don't share it with the wildlife. It's important to keep their diets, and for that, you can buy little sachets of prepared food, proper for them to eat. This way, you can both help the reserve and enjoy the fun of interacting with Wildlife.
