The light of Central Plaza Mall in Bangkok Thailand changed to blue right when I had a good shot of the blue tortoise lanterns put up for Chinese New Year. My escalator riding was paying off on this day
As the hidden glow lights faded into all colors of the rainbow, I was trying to catch them when they blended. Green light does not set off the blue lanterns as nicely, I know this from my many other pics.
I’m not riding the escalators alone. In fact they are packed on all risers with Thai people going about the their normal course of business. As a westerner used to dead malls, the vibrancy of Bangkok and all SE Asian malls I visit is a constant revelation to me.
Malls are destinations in this region with playgrounds, hotels, clinics, travel agents, and always the crowds of singles, groups, and families; all staying cool and enjoying life.
They keep their shops and services in sections in Thailand and pretty much everywhere in SE Asia. Banking will be all together in one place, massages in another, pharmacies here, office supplies there, and a 100 shoe stores over there.
This is why I never saw anything but the money changers. I never have a need to buy anything, and I wanted to spend any time I had riding the escalators and taking photos. I’m almost at the roof right now and will turn around and ride again up when I get another 7 floors down.
Thai people smile and think I am a crazy old western lady shooting pictures of nothing. I make eye contact and grin broadly at them, and they are glad I’m happy. They have no idea that this is my real life and think I am on holiday. If I could talk to them I would let them know I am on the permanent vacation of life.
It’s all about Bangkok for me this week, as I will be there again for STEEMFest next week. I will post whatever I get good photos of, even if it takes a few years.
