This last month I have spent in Melgarejo and it's surroundings which have become by far my favorite area in Paraguay. The Natural environment is very pristine and there is a lot of foreigners which make it a highly diverse and multicultural landscape. There is a German colony and though the majority of migrants here are German there are also enough people from other countries, as well as paraguayans to keep things balanced and interesting.

While looking around for something interesting to do I was introduced to a young couple who have a beautiful spot on Cerro Acati, just a few kilometers from town. They were open to receive me for some work exchange in return of staying here and providing me food and it has been a good deal since the place is truly beautiful,  with access to river you are seeing in the photos.

There are many trails around here leading to different sites of touristic interest, as well as wilder options for the more adventurous. There's even a three hour route to get to Salto Suizo which is one of the main attractions of this area.

The friends that received have are building a new house with a lot of natural material and are currently also renting the one next to them for those who want to visit the area. It is located 5 kms from Melgarejo and 7 kms from Cerro Acati. It has an equipped kitchen, air conditioning, and WiFi.

The pricing is 150.000 guaraní (21.50 USD aprox.) per person. If you're interested you can contact Amai at +595 986 391336.

There's a lot of natural beauty here to appreciate, plenty of hikes to do, and a comfortable place to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

This area is also well known for harboring many who seek alternative lifestyles, growing their own food and building with natural material. There are also many dedicated to natural healing, offering ceremonies with different medicines. It is a good place if you are looking to renew your vitality and connect with your deeper self. All these are reasons why this has become my favorite area in Paraguay.

If you're more the volunteering type you might also be able to work something out with them as they are full of projects such as the house you're seeing above.  They have a bakery and host many activities here at their place so you won't run out of things to do.

I hope you've enjoyed this little tour of this wonderful place and consider one day visiting as I'm sure you won't regret it. Thank you for reading and hanging around 🙂
