About The Vijoy Singh Dighi

Vijoy Singh is a name of famous empire of Bengal. In the era of Sena Dynasty, he was one of the best empire of that time. And Dighi means a big pond. There were a huge number of DIGHI beside the territory of the empire. These Dinghies not only fulfilled the water demand but also increase the beauty of the empire having some protection out there from enemies. As Vijoy Singh excavated this, that why its named by his name Vijoy Singh Dighi. History said that, This was excavated about 600 years ago. Local People says that it was done to eliminate the blindness of a girl. The girl was the daughter of a neighbor empire named Maharaj from Tripura.

Location:

Its about 2.5 km away from the main city area of **Feni** district in Bangladesh. Its about only 300 m away from the main Bus stand of Feni district named Mohipal Bus Stand. Beside the dighi there is a circuit house of the government, municipal corporation and some educational institutes.

Short Description:

The area of Dighi is around 10 acres. (about 37 acres including other historical elements). It will take more than 5 minutes to have complete round the Dighi. Government had done some decoration on it. Make the way of sorrounding beautiful. So tourists like to walk on the bank of the Dighi. The bank is full of different tree. The bank is very tall compared to the water level of the Dighi. In one side there is jungle like trees. Present environment is very pretty in the morning and evening. Former Deputy Commissioner of Feni, AHM M Nurul Islam, planted a lot of trees on the bank of this Dighi to make it cool and walking friendly.

Its not only beautiful but also a tradition historical place in Bangladesh. A good number of visitors, tourists and government officials (as beside circuit house) come to see the beauty of this Dighi from all over the country regularly. Specially in the morning and enveing of the weekend and vacation its over crowded. Its open for all at free of cost. Thats the key to attract local travellers. Its one of the best places for the tourists who basically wants to come close to the nature for spending some quality time with water and pond.

Available ways to Travel:

You need to come to Feni District first. From Dhaka or From Chittagong you can easily pick a bus or train to go to Feni. Then by auto rickshaw you can reach the Dighi by 5 minutes.

Hotel, Food and Guide Facilities:

This place is popular among all classes of people in Bangladesh to travel because there are wide range of hotel and restaurant facilities from cheap to luxurious. Mohipal and Feni are two commercially important area. So, you will find every facilities of quality Hotels, Restaurants, and Guide Facilities very easily. Local hotels have minimum comfort and living standard. But large, decorated, comfortable and costly hotels are also available here around this nice tourist place. Local traditional foods are available here. Now there are a lot of restaurant here and there nearby this Dighi as its just beside the main city. So local dishes are available at wide range of services and cost. You can have taste of those foods which is so much appealing and loving to people here in Bangladesh. There are several restaurants serving foreign dishes like Thai, Chinese, Indian etc. So, there is no trouble to visit this good place. Excellent.

My Experience:

In the task of official work, I need to go to different factories with students for Industrial visit. After the industrial tour, if we have time at our hand, we search for tourist place out there for have a turn. This visit was like that. After the industrial visit to a towel factory in Feni, we have a turn to this Dighi after lunch. Students specially enjoy this kind of site visit along with industrial visit. I visited this natural beautiful place another time as well. It’s very enjoyable and fun to visit a tourist place with colleagues and students.

A huge lake surrounded by bank of the Dighi. I like this place for its real natural wind and water. Surrounding the Dighi huge number of trees makes the area more pleasant. Once there were some boats in the Dighi. But now it’s not there. So we missed that opportunity of some boat travel.

It was a memorable day and nice experience to all of us. We have walked in the charming beauty for a while. It was very nice feeling and enjoyment. Very interesting time spending by walking, gossiping, capturing photos etc. Some unforgettable moments.

I recommend to visit there with family. They will enjoy a lot in this closure to nature and peaceful and calm environment. As Costing is very low, you can spend time whenever you choose in the weekend of the active official days. It was very nice feeling in taking several foods from local restaurants, street food.
