Hello people and pinmapplers!

We continue again touring the capital of Portugal, Lisbon, a different, unique city with a special atmosphere. In another post I commented that there were many things to see, it is a city full of art, history and much more.

It has a rare orography, with highs and lows, neighborhoods near the mouth of the Tagus river (río Tajo in Spanish, río Tejo in Portuguese), and others at the top, but higher up, in the highest position we see a castle.

This is the São Jorge Castle, with imposing walls but its interior is not so well preserved, there are more ruins but the environment has something difficult to describe, and perhaps more allá than the history of construction there is to look further there. The views from there. Let's go.

And to access it we need to walk, there is some bus but it is complex because of the narrowness of the streets as well as we do exercise along the old steep streets and we already enjoy beautiful views of the river from some viewpoint (this is already at another time, at another next post maybe).

Let's get there and you can see the traffic of curious visitors, some at the best breathing if it's hot, behind the road, but it's not too much. In addition, we enjoy some points of interest, old streets, arches from another era and with some saint who may bless us on the day.

There are also interesting stores or somewhere to eat again and these famous custard pastries (named "Pasteis de nata" in Portuguese), and that's how we remember some establishment…

But we got there, you have to pay for the inner part but it's ok, it's interesting and worthy. We walk around there, through ruins in silence that tell us a lot.

How much that place has witnessed... as well as the statue of Saint George (São Jorge) I presume this is him...

We witness something impressive at the moment, the best part, the views... from the canyon we see everything and much more.

We can see everything! The river, all of the historic center of the city, and more there, from new to the 25th of April and more all there to the other side (this is the town of Almada) a Christ, is the National Sanctuary of Cristo Rey, aunque evokes us the other further, really) The Christ the Redeemer of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.

And we continue to intensify the gaze, from one side to the other, enjoying the visual spectacle and the panorama that each moment changes with the sweet light of a beautiful afternoon in the beautiful city of Lisbon.

A beautiful city but it opens, in addition to history and art, much sentiment and it appears shaped in a stone there in the castle. This is a poem about the city of Lisbon written by a Portuguese poet named Sophia de Mello Breyner (Wikipedia), here I leave it here translated into English (using simply DeepL Translate hoping that the meaning is not lost…).

I say: "Lisbon"
when I cross -south avenue- the river
and the city to which I arrive opens as if from its name was born
it opens and rises in its nocturnal extension
in its wide blue and river glow
in its body piled up with hills.
I see it better because I say it
everything shows better because I say
everything shows better its being and its lack
because I say
Lisbon with its name of being and non-being
with its meanders of insomnia and canned passions
and its secret glimmering of theatrical things
its conniving smile of intrigue and mask
while the long sea to the West expands to the West
Lisbon swaying like a great boat
Lisbon cruelly built along its own absence
I say the name of the city
I say to see

And soon some more wonderful places in Lisbon, Portugal at the foot of the Tagus River and in front of the Atlantic Ocean, an ocean breeze full of nostalgia will take us there...

Thanks for reading! Have a charming and nice day!
