Halfway along the GR282 hiking trail towards Leizargarate (San Adrián cave) you come to this wide pass between the Aizkorri-Aratz mountains, which is full of large pastures and is, therefore, one of the favorite places for horses and cows to graze freely and take a nap.
Seeing them graze and live at their own pace is very gratifying and, although you can approach them at a safe distance, do not forget that the animals are unpredictable.
I remember an anecdote of a woman who got too close to one of these cows (perhaps to pet it) and was rammed, falling down a ravine and having to be rescued by emergency services 48 hours later, with broken bones and hypothermia.
It's true that in the Basque Country mountains there are lots of herds of horses and cows grazing everywhere but I assure you that it's something you don't get used to and that, in my case, I always appreciate, enjoying their short company.
