Otivar is a small village, a short drive from Malaga, southern Spain. I was staying in Almunecar, a one hour drive east of Malaga. We spent a couple of days driving to the small villages in the surroundings. My last post with street art was from Jete, which is only a few kilometers south of Otivar. We drove up here to have lunch in a restaurant called Carreta del Suspiro. The Rio Verde runs trough the village and continues towards the sea in Almunecar.
On our way back we made a stop here. The art on this wall gives a good idea of what
the villagers do to have an income. We saw fruits and vegetable fields everywhere around the village. Acording to the painting, wine seems to be produced here too.
Just like the village of Jete, Otriva also has 1000 inhabitants. The history of both villages is similar to many of the small towns along the coast. They were important during the period of the first Mediterranean civilizations. It was during this period of the Arabs in Andalucia that an efficient agriculture was developed. Agriculture is probably still important as the main source of income.
