Historic Blakeley State Park

Blakeley State Park is home to Alabama's largest Civil War battle which was the Battle of Fort Blakeley and it took place from April 2 to April 9, 1865. While I was traveling for the book about the Civil War, we stopped at the park. They had a lot of cannons on the grounds and different trenches where the battles had taken place.

One thing that is kind of troublesome to think of while walking around these ground is to the amount of death and destruction that happened on this land. So many lives were lost here and now it is a state park where people come to go on walking trails, ride bikes, and go horseback riding.

The Battle of Fort Blakeley is said to be some of the fiercest fighting of the Civil War. This was the final major battle of the Civil War prior to General Lee's surrender in Appomattox on the morning of the 9th of April. During the battle the Union army suffered 150 casualties and the Confederate side suffered 75 casualties.
