Today I would like to introduce the Fischhaus Loof in Husum. I was just thinking about what theme it would fit to, because it's not a normal restaurant. I could have posted this post on the competition topics Takeaway, Local Dishes, Seafood Restaurant or Street Food, but I decided to go for the ongoing competition A Restaurant by the Sea.
Husum lies on the German North Sea not far from Denmark. On the way to Fischhaus Loof you walk from the parking lot over a bridge to the other side of the harbour. At the North Sea there is ebb and flow. As you can see in the pictures, the tide is just high and in a few hours the water will have disappeared.
On these two older pictures, you can see what it looks like at low tide. I thought I had to show you this fantastic natural phenomenon.
The Fischhaus Loof is located directly at the harbour at the Kleikuhle. It is very popular with locals and tourists.
There are all kinds of marine specialities and you can choose whether you want to take it home with you, eat it on the way, rather sit down at a table in the bistro or in the restaurant on the first floor. In summer the terrace in front of the restaurant offers many seats to enjoy the sun with a beer and a fish snack.
At the cooking bar the dishes are freshly prepared in front of your eyes. Here shark steak, plaice fillet, gilthead, prawns, halibut, zander, salmon, herrings, mussels, but also a steak or schnitzel and much more end up in the hot pan. The side dishes are usually fried or boiled potatoes and a salad of the season.
At the fish counter there is a large assortment of fresh fish, smoked fish, seafood, salads and marinades which you can take home and prepare yourself. I prefer to take the roll directly into my hand, because the fish and crab rolls from Loof are certainly some of the best in the world.
Who comes between 17 o'clock and 18 o'clock receives two tapped Flensburger beers for only 2 euro to the Happy Hour.
Today I bought a roll with matjes at the fish counter and as always it was excellent as you can see on the pictures.
Of course I also bought something to take with me. Fresh matjes and the canned fish, crab and lobster soups are later eaten at home with the wife.
I hope you enjoyed the trip to the German North Sea coast.
