The whole trek to the waterfall is really beautiful and the main part of it is through an amazing mystical forest. While I was walking through it, I felt like being in the movie “Lord of the Ring” or some fairytale.

Every mountain in Bulgaria has its own unique atmosphere and landscapes. The trees, the flowers, the shapes of the rocks, the whole microclimate is different. I haven’t been to so many treks in this mountain, especially compared to Rila (I am almost a Rila expert :D) , but I have a dream one - Kom - Emine, which is « only » 650 km long trail that goes through a big part of this mountain all the way to the Black Sea. When I do it, I’ll be more familiar with the Balkan mountains.

And while Kom-Emine is for sure not for everyone, this one - to the waterfall, I would recommend to everyone, because it is just gorgeous and even though it is not easy, everyone can do it. The photos just can’t capture the atmosphere of the place, and not only my poor smartphone photos, but even the great professional ones. I know, because I had seen many photos of the waterfall before this trek, quite good, but being there is totally different. And it is definitely a must place in the Bulgarian mountains. The best time for going there is in early summer.

The Hut just below the waterfall. Sleeping here in a tent(near the hut) is on my bucket list.
And the best part of the trek - the waterfall. It is 124,5m high and it is magnificent!

HIGHLY recommend this trek! One of my favorites ever.

If you are interested you can chech these two drone videos. The second one is from my favorite bulgarian photographer - Vladislav Terziiski, but it’s captured probably in the late autumn, so unfortunately it’s pretty colorless.

Thanks for stopping by!
