Last weekend, we visited the Christmas lights at Gardens by the Bay, and it was a truly enjoyable experience. Nothing quite like the joy one feels during the merriest time of the year. The weather likely enhances this cheerful atmosphere, as Singapore’s tropical climate offers its best during Christmas. The consistent cool breeze makes outdoor activities much more pleasant, and rain is rare during this time, ensuring that planned activities are less likely to be disrupted or postponed.

We went to Marina Barrage!

Marina Barrage is a water treatment facility that doubles as an open-space park.

Upper level serves as a open space or park, the ground level are for amenities like restaurants, while below it is the water treatment plant.

I’m amazed by the clever planning that went into this place because, although it’s not a traditional attraction like a theme park, it offers a breathtaking view of the ocean and the perfect breeze for flying kites. That’s why it has become one of my favorite spots in the city.

What makes Marina Barrage even better is that it doesn’t require any payment to enjoy its amenities. Motivated by the amazing weather, we decided to head to the city and hang out at this favorite spot of ours. Its unique combination of functionality and leisure makes it an unparalleled gem in the city.

To give you an idea of how the main building is designed, imagine it as a single-level spiral structure. You gently ascend a sloping ramp from one end, then walk down on the same path to exit at the other end. A continuous climb up and down the building takes about 10 minutes, offering a seamless and enjoyable journey.

The experience is truly remarkable, as you’re treated to different views of the city and the ocean during the climb.

At one section of the ascent, you’ll enjoy a stunning view of the Central Business District and the Marina Bay Sands area. At the highest point, the view shifts to the ocean, where you can see large ships either docked or waiting to enter the port.

On the descent, another highlight awaits, a picturesque view of Marina Bay featuring the iconic Singapore Flyer!

Regardless of the beautiful sights around Marina Barrage, I believe the true essence of the place lies in the open space above it. This area serves as a picnic spot and kite-flying haven for visitors, radiating a warm, family-oriented vibe that truly amazes me.

As I looked around, I noticed that many of the people who had set up their picnic mats during our visit were families. There were plenty of kids and young-at-heart adults running around, clearly having a fantastic time with their loved ones. I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere of this place, and it was easy to see why everyone else was enjoying it too. The joyous vibe was infectious, making it a wonderfully satisfying experience—perfect for a weekend outing!
