I’ll always love plains, as I grew up in a vast one in south of Romania. You already know this about me :), I’ve mentioned it a lot of times and showed you many pictures. Nevertheless, I love heights too, and this year most of my trips were related to our highest roads. This, I’ll tell you about, is an unplanned trip which turned out great.
We’ve stayed for a few days in a little mountain town: Sinaia. On our way home, instead of going straight to Bucharest, we’ve turned right on a 17 km road going through Bucegi Natural Park. The name of the road is Transbucegi and it’s the third highest road in Romania (after Transalpina and Transfagarasan). The view is spectacular. On the first kilometers, the road is very narrow and has many twists and turns. It was the middle of the week and a little rainy, so it wasn’t crowded at all. We’ve stopped for short walks and pictures. The silence was overwhelming.
We’ve decided to climb this small mountain, on the left (next photo). It was pleasant and easy; the grass formed a carpet like nice to walk on. Once you’ve stopped for a second to catch your breath, you notice little wonders next to you: tiny flowers. This blue one I enjoyed most. I found out (long live the internet!) that the name is Gentiana nivalis.
Up high. Gentle wind, it smells like grass, rain and unknown flowers. I am, literally, with my head in the clouds. The altitude sickness is not that bad. The best pictures – the ones I didn’t take.
The end of the road is Piatra Arsa Cabin (1950 m). This is the place where you leave your car and go on hiking to famous touristic objectives such as: Sfinxul, Babele and Caraiman Cross.
Thank you for joining me.
