Hop-on-hop-off Boat Tour via The Chao Phraya River, Bangkok, Thailand [Part 1 of 3]

December 2019 · 2 min read

Today was a day full of epic adventure. A staff member at our hotel, Baan Suan Prannok Residence, recommended we try the “hop-on-hop -off” ferry boat along the Chao Phraya River. This boat provides the original hop-on-hop-off boat service, leading all public transportation of any waterway in all of Bangkok.

We did something similar in Athens, Greece last summer, buying an all day ticket aboard the hop-on-hop-off bus. This type of sight seeing and transport is great because it enables you to stop at all the highlight attractions without the hassle of having to aimlessly stumble around the city. The Chao Phraya Tourist Boat offers one, two, and even three day passes. We decided the one day pass would be just fine for our style of the travel.

The Boat tour stops at a number of piers along the river including: Sathorn Pier, Iconsiam Pier, LHONG 1919 Pier, Ratchawongse Pier, Pakklong Taladd Pier, Wat Arun Pier, Tha Maharaj Pier, Thonburi Railway Station, and Phra Arthit Pier. Each location offers its own unique flavor to passer goers stopping to either learn about the rich history of each attraction, take photographs, or simply walk around and take it all in.

We decided to just hop-on and surpass the hop-off portion for the first trip down the Chao Phraya River. It was hot, about 90 degrees, so we decided to catch a breeze and cool off for the first hour or so. When we finally decided to hop-off, we stopped at Wat Arun and Yaowarat.

This post will specifically be followed up with two accompanying stories to highlight and detail the stops in which we made along the Chao Phraya River via today’s epic boat tour.

Please stay tuned as these posts will come in succession to the original post drafted here.
