Taking a short break from my Morocco trip, I decided I would share information about a couple of hotels I have stayed at domestically over the past couple of weeks. Last week, I was in Grapevine, TX for meetings. I stayed at the *Springhill Suites DFW Airport North. There is a shuttle to the airport, but you should be careful when you call it. I called the Springhill Suites and asked if it was the DFW Airport hotel and they said "yes" and sent the shuttle. I ended up at a different Springhill Suites on the other side of the airport. A sixteen dollar Uber ride later, I was at the correct hotel. The hotel did not bother to ensure I was contacting the correct Springhill Suites. Thanks a lot. (But that is not the fault of the hotel where I actually stayed).
When I arrived at the hotel, I had already checked in online. I was given my room keys and proceeded directly to my room. I had meetings set for later in the day, so I quickly unpacked and headed out for meetings. The hotel is an older Springhill Suites that does not appear to have ever been updated. I had two impressions of the room. It was dated but clean. And it was spacious. It seemed a bit bigger than some of the other studio suites I have stayed at. The room didn't look modern, but it was clean and functional.
The room had a bit more distinction between the kitchen and bedroom area than a Residence Inn might have. Guests enter through the living room section, with the kitchen (in this room) immediately to my left. There was a full sized refrigerator, microwave and coffee pot in the kitchen. There was on large flat screen television that sat on a desk between the bedroom and living room. You could face it whichever direction you wanted to view from, but it was slightly awkward. I did not watch television while I was there anyway, so it really didn't matter.
The bed was very comfortable. The linens appeared to be new and clean, in spite of the older look of the hotel room. The bathroom was located beyond the bedroom area with the sink and mirror located outside of the toilet/shower area. This works out great if you are traveling with family members and everyone is trying to get ready at the same time. Hygiene can be addressed while someone else might be occupying the shower. I was by myself, so it didn't much matter. But I like that set up and find it common to suite style rooms.
Two other awkward constructs in my room were the closet and the outlets. I need to charge my devices at night and like to keep my phones on the nightstand. That required me to use the outlet on the side of the closet that you can see in the photo above. Not the most ideal location, but luckily I travel with long charging cords. The other weird setup is the closet. As you can see, you have a nightstand directly in front of the closet doors. That makes it more difficult to get in and out of the closet. Only one door was actually functional with this configuration.
While my room didn't have an exceptional view, it wasn't bad. There were plenty of trees outside my room along with the inevitable power lines. The greenery was far better to look at than neighboring buildings (there weren't any at this location). The room had free wifi which was a more than adequate connection for my needs. The hotel was also located walking distance to a mall and a decent walk to some restaurants and a Bass Pro Shop. The location was only a few minutes from the airport, as well. When I took the morning shuttle back to the airport, I was at my terminal in about fifteen minutes.
I'm not sure if all Springhill Suites offer light snacks and beer/wine in the evening, but this location does. The offerings while I was there included chicken wings, nachos, hummus and chips. The beer appeared to be Bud Light, which will do in a pinch. They also had free wine. In the morning, they had a hot breakfast that included yogurt, breads, hot meats, eggs, fresh fruit and more. There was also a coffee and juice stand toward the lobby. The breakfast was adequate to get your morning started.
Overall, the Springhill Suites Dallas/Fort Worth Airport North was a good experience. It is an older hotel, but it has been well maintained. The common areas appear to have been updated more recently than the rooms. The rooms may not look modern, but they are large and comfortable. There were some nice features to the rooms and a couple of poorly constructed designs. But overall, a solid experience. I would stay at this hotel again. The hotel is located at 2240 W. Grapevine Mills Circle, Grapevine, Texas 76051 USA. Room are currently in the upper one hundred dollar range which is standard for this area.
