I hope you guys are doing great.
Yesterday, I posted about Key Monastery, Kibber, Spiti but today I will be posting about the World's Highest Post Office which is situated at an altitude of 4,400 meters above the sea level.
This Highest Post office is in Hikkim Village of Lahaul Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh. This village remains cut off from the other parts of the Himachal Pradesh for more than half of the year due to very very heavy snowfall over high mountain passes. A track connects Hikkim Village to Kaza town and this stretch is about 46 Kilometers.
This amazing village has world's highest post office and this post office connects small villages in this isolated region to the rest of the world. This post office receives and sends postal letters and also acts as savings bank where villagers can deposit and withdraw their money. The PIN of this village is 172114.
Rinchen Chhering is the postmaster there since 1983 and the mail from there is transferred to Kaza on foot, the post office is shut down during winters. Travellers from around the world mail post cards to themselves to remember that they visited this place.
One more amazing fact about this village is that this village is also the world's highest polling station and its recorded in the Limca Book of Records and this village appeared in the Wanderlust Photo of the year for year 2009 according to the Wikipedia.
Most of the population of this village is Buddhists and people use stones and wood to build up their houses.
