Dear friends from #Hive and #Liketu, last weekend in the Galician town of Ribadeo a very special festival was celebrated. This festival is the "Ribadeo Indiano". It is a festivity that has been celebrated in recent years in Ribadeo as a tribute to the Spanish emigrants from Galicia and Asturias to America at the end of the 19th century or beginning of the 20th century. These emigrants, due to the delicate economic situation in Spain at that time, embarked with the intention of making their fortune in countries such as Cuba, Dominican Republic, Venezuela or Argentina. On their return to Spain, those who managed to make a fortune were called Indianos.

The Indianos, with the small or large fortunes generated, invested in the purchase of land, noble titles, renovation of old houses and in some cases invested in the patronage of charitable or cultural institutions on their return.

Due to the fact that in the region of Ribadeo there are many remains of Indian houses or palaces, the Ribadeo Indiano has been held in July for the last 9 years. Only in 2020 and 2021, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it has not been possible to hold it.

A characteristic of this popular festival is that most of the attendees replicate the white dress and hats of the colonial fashion of the XIX-XX century.

Throughout the weekend this year a multitude of cultural events, talks, colloquiums and live music with habanera songs as the highlight.

For those who want to know a little more about this festival, I leave you a link.
