These days, I find myself travelling down (up?) to Sydney quite often for work... and that means that I'm either finding cheaper accommodation for myself to stay (to pocket a bit more of that accommodation allowance)... or the ensembles might book a place for me. Either way, I'm pretty happy... my needs are pretty frugal, but it doesn't hurt to occasionally stay in a decent place. Veriu is one of the better places that I have stayed in, the sort of middle ground places before you start to reach the high end hotels.
Last time I was in this area, I stayed next door at the ValuSuites... and that was a bit cheaper, and it sort of showed in the quality that you got. Much smaller rooms, and the sort of place that was essentially a small bedsit.
The thing that strikes you immediately as you walk into the lobby is the quite strange reception desk... yep, a cutout of a real car... that has been converted to house a computer desk or two behind. Striking and novel...
There is a small bar area near the reception... but other than that, there isn't that much more going on down here (there was a small gym down the back somewhere though).
Veriu doesn't have its own attached restaurant/cafe... but it does have an eating space that is owned and operated by a different outfit. I didn't eat dinner there, as this place was in close walking distance to some pretty nice restaurants... but I did get my morning coffee here, and that was a pretty decent one!
Like every hotel/suite... well, you have the bland corridors that make you feel like you are in a bit of a waking horror movie.
The rooms aren't huge, but they are about three times the size of the budget accommodation next door!
... and the bed is a proper queen size one rather than the tiny single that I had in the other place!
Shower and toilet facilities were clean and decent.... they worked well enough, without leaks and grime, and without flooding half the room whenever you took a shower!
... but unfortunately, the view was a bit uninspiring! That said... I don't think that the view anywhere in a city is going to be much different from this! In fact, this could be one of the better ones... at least you aren't looking right into another building or a flat wall!
... ah, the complimentary gifts... this is a weird one, three boutique cans of mineral water. Sure... why not.... although, I have to say it isn't quite the same as getting a nice little bottle of port and dark chocolate.
So, Veriu... decent accommodation, nothing fancy... but a good step up from the budget lines that you will find around a city. Definitely will be happy to return in the future!
