Urbano is an interesting little (well, not so little...) place in the local shopping area near Homebush station in the west of Sydney. This area is a nice place for me to dump a car when I'm working in Sydney... free parking, so no need to pay the stupidly high prices of parking in the hotels or Sydney CBD... and easily accessible by train, or a cheap Uber ride away from the hotels in the centre of Sydney.
So, Urbano occupies a large long building on the corner of a roundabout, near a school... and it sees quite high foot traffic... and quite deservedly so. The place is split into a bakery at the front corner, and the back is a cafe/restaurant.
The Space
I was in the area, killing time between a rehearsal and picking up the car and the concert later in the evening. I figured that I may as well camp out and each lunch here instead of going back into the hustle and bustle of central Sydney.
Nice large tables, with outdoor seating as well... but I chose to stay inside. On bright sunny days like this, there is more quiet space inside... and I do like my quiet spaces!
The Menu
There is an all day breakfast menu... plus lots of smoothies (hmmm... now that I see that, I probably should have ordered this as well!). And the menu fare seems to be mostly Greek in style... prices are still more expensive than what I'm used to... but definitely still cheaper than eating in the centre of Sydney!
The Food
I ended up getting a Lamb Gyros... served up with a very small side of chips. Actually, I didn't mind the small serving size.... I'm not a big eater by any means, and if the is a large serving on the plate... well, I tend to overeat and feel sick afterwards. Better to keep it small and manageable!
... and I have to say, this was a quality feed! Chips were perfect, and the slow cooked chunks of lamb were just melt in the mouth yum!
The coffee was pretty decent as well! Although, in hindsight, I probably should have gotten a smoothie or fresh juice for the meal and then followed up with a coffee and cake afterwards!
... oh yes, and on the way out... a tray of macarons for the girls! They love these... and I was away for quite a while.
The Experience
Large spacious area, family friendly with loads of distance between the tables. Great food, coffee, and bakery products. Honestly, if I lived in the area, I would be visiting quite often! But this is going to be a great place to visit every time I need to dump a car in Sydney!
