Ah... travelling and working in regional Australia means that I'm booking and staying at quite a lot of little roadside motels. Interesting little places that are often a good deal cheaper than an AirBNB. In fact, I'm starting to enjoy staying at these little roadside inns/motels as there is always staff on hand for weird hour check-ins and there is less fussing around with potential "social" connections with the hosts!
So, Riverview motel was an interesting place to stay... all of these places are done like terrace houses with split levels (a room on the top and a room on the bottom). Its really nice to see that all of these regional places have embraced the solar panel revolution! There is so much sun out here that it would be just a waste to let all that energy go to waste... especially when the power plants are so far away and you are prone to getting cut off due to floods or fire.
Another hilarious feature of these motel inns are the huge amounts of parking places. Obviously a necessary sort of feature, as pretty much everyone will have drive a huge amount of kilometres to get to this location... this is a place without an airport and no train station!
... but it is quite worthwhile to be out in the middle of regional Australia. The clarity of the sky and the freshness of the air!
Well... I didn't really need this much space or beds! I was just travelling by myself. I actually was quite fond of the paintings on the walls though... the art decorations can be a bit hit and miss in these places. Sometimes, there is really great artwork... and at other times, it is kitschy as all hell!
A small microwave was the only cooking facility, but the motel was a short walk away from the main street and the local pub.
A nice touch for this particular motel was the offer of fresh milk from the office! A bottle of locally produced milk from the surrounding area!
