Recently, one of my brother-in-laws mentioned that the best coffee that he ever had in Canberra was in the industrial area of Fyshwick in Canberra... I was a bit dubious, after all this is an area with all the light industrial car repairs, warehouses, and tradie supply shops... I mean, why would there be a good coffee place there... let alone, the "best in Canberra"?
Still... given that he has pretty good taste in food and coffee... when I found myself in Fyshwick the other week, I texted him to ask for the name of the place. I had an hour to kill before a concert, and I figured I may as well test this claim out!
Coming into the shop, you quickly realise that it isn't a regular cafe or anything like that... they have the coffee bar set up, but very little in the way of food... this is a COFFEE place!
There are is a little area for seating... but mostly, it is coffee and out!
... and now I start to see why this MIGHT be the best place for coffee in the whole of Canberra. It is a light industrial area, but that also means that floor space is relatively cheap, and that means that you have space for roasting your own beans and doing all that wholesale supply stuff... and if you are doing that, then you need to convince your customers with a pretty decent end product in the form of coffee in drink form!
So, they do take themselves quite seriously... there are several choices for the beans... and I ended up settling on the Dark version... I would have tried the Good Day in a different circumstance, but I was really tired after having just driven about 4 hours, and I needed a strong hit to have my brain in concert playing shape!
... like I said, not much in the way of food!
In the end, I had to run... as I had some silver to pick up before the concert as well. But was it a good coffee? I got a flat white in the Dark Blend... and oh my gosh, I DO believe that this IS the best coffee in Canberra! Smooth, and at the right temperature (NOT SCALDING!)....
I'm sold, next time I find an excuse to be in this area, I'm bringing my wife and we are going to sit down and have a bite to eat as well!
Then, we can have ourselves a proper review of this place!
