There are quite a lot of restaurants to choose from in the Newtown/Glebe area around the university... in fact, so many that is sort of gets a bit difficult to choose a place to sit down and eat. And being the person that I am, I like to get into a place before it gets busy... I hate eating alone already... and doing that in a busy place is even less desirable. When it gets to that point, I'll just find a different place... or just get takeaway.

So, on this particular night... I had a craving for Ramen. I LOVE ramen... and I had tried to eat here the last time I was housed in the area... but it was already quite busy, and so I bounced away and tried a different place. Actually, from memory, I might have just skipped dinner completely and gone to the really nice ice cream place on the other side of the road!

... but this night, it was pretty quiet and I was going to go in and get some ramen!

The Space

Goku is pretty small... but nice and cosy. A split level setting with the kitchen in the back. I decided to sit on the higher level overlooking the rest of the eating floor. If I couldn't have my back to a wall, I would just lord over everyone else instead!

The Menu

Oh man... so many different types of ramen... and a few rice dish options as well! I was almost tempted by the rice dishes... but I was HERE FOR RAMEN!

The Food

After ordering, the food arrived stunningly quickly! About 3-5 minutes at most! I had ordered the Miso Ramen with Char Siu strips... and this was some very nice chewy noodles with a nice rich broth for the soup. Some nice additions in terms of corn, mushrooms, and the pork strips.

A good size for a little person like me... but I suspect that those with bigger stomachs might prefer a little bit more. However, on the menu, there are options to have a larger maxi size if you want more food.

Pork Gyoza... pan fried and served up with a nice slightly chili sauce. I always wonder if I would have room for eating dumplings... but you HAVE to have dumplings!

... and finally, a Japanese version of a bubbly apple drink! I loved Apfelschorle in Germany... everytime I visited or travelled to Germany for work or otherwise, I would always get some of that fizzy apple drink! So, when I saw that there was a Japanese version available, I just had to get it! Much sweeter than the German version, but still as satisfying!

The Experience

Not that expensive, with fast service from ordering through to food availability. Plus warming and tasty noodles and broth along with staff that just leave you alone to eat... well, I have definitely found a place that I will be revisiting often!

I will also be visiting with my family... there are so many places that I try out, that I make sure that my wife and kids will also experience when we visit on family trips!
