ก็เป็นเรื่องราวของเดือนที่แล้วตอนที่ไปเยี่ยมน้องสาวที่ต่างจังหวัด ขากลับต้องมาขึ้นเครื่องที่ดอนเมือง คุณสาอยากจะไปเที่ยวพระนครก่อนกลับบ้าน ก็เลยอยู่พระนครสองวัน ก็นอนโรงแรมแถวๆ ถนนพระอาทิตย์ เพราะก่อนจะจองก็ดูว่ารอบๆ มีอะไรน่าสนใจบ้าง ข้างๆ โรงแรมเป็นสวนสาธารณะสันติชัยปราการ คุณสากับเจ้าลูกชายคนเล็กตื่นไปเดินเล่นในสวนแต่เช้า ส่วนบัวยังนอนขี้เกียจอยู่ในโรงแรม พอคุณสาและลูกชายกลับมาจากสวนก็มาเล่าให้ฟังว่ามีสวนสาธารณะที่มีดอกไม้สวยๆ เยอะเลย น่าน.... เอาดอกไม้มาล่อให้เราออกไปข้างนอก พออาบน้ำอาบท่าหาอะไรทานเรียบร้อย พวกเราก็ตรงไปยังสวนสาธารณะนี้อีกครั้ง
สวนสาธารณะสันติชัยปราการ ตั้งอยู่ในบริเวณป้อมพระสุเมรุ โบราณสถานเก่าแก่ที่มีความสำคัญในประวัติศาสตร์ชาติไทย ปัจจุบันกรุงเทพมหานครส่งเสริมให้สวนแห่งนี้เป็นสถานที่ท่องเที่ยวทางประวัติศาสตร์ย่านบางลำพู นอกเหนือจากบทบาทของสวนสาธารณะเพื่อการพักผ่อน
สวนแห่งนี้ได้รับการออกแบบให้เป็นสถานที่พักผ่อนชมความงามของทัศนียภาพแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยาบริเวณคุ้งน้ำที่งดงามเป็นพิเศษ มีมนต์เสน่ห์ในแบบตะวันออก และเป็นสวนสาธารณะของกรุงเทพมหานครเพียง 1 ใน 2 แห่ง ที่ได้เปรียบในด้านทำเลที่ตั้ง ทำให้สวนแห่งนี้สามารถใช้เป็นสถานที่เฝ้าชมพระบารมีพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว ขณะเสด็จพระราชดำเนินโดยกระบวนพยุหยาตราทางชลมารค ในพระราชพิธีถวายผ้าพระกฐิน ซึ่งเป็นพระราชพิธีที่ยิ่งใหญ่เป็นที่สนใจของต่างชาติ
ที่นี่มีต้นลำพู เดิมบริเวณนี้เป็นป่าชายเลน มีดงลำพูและเป็นที่อยู่อาศัยของหิ่งห้อยจำนวนมาก ที่มาของชื่อ "บางลำพู" ในสมัยอยุธยาเล่ากันว่า "ถ้าพายเรือมาเห็นแสงจากหิ่งห้อยยามค่ำคืนที่อยู่กับต้นลำพู แสดงว่าได้เดินทางมาถึงบางลำพูแล้ว" แต่ปัจจุบันเหลือเพียง 3 ต้นในบริเวณริมน้ำของสวนแห่งนี้เท่านั้น ต้ำลำพูเป็นพันธุ์ไม้ให้ประโยชน์ช่วยให้น้ำใส ป้องกันน้ำเซาะตลิ่ง และเป็นแหล่งอาศัยของหิ่งห้อย การเปล่งแสงของหิ่งห้อยเกิดขึ้นหลังพลยค่ำ เป็นสัญญาณใน "การเรียกคู่" เพื่อผสมพันธุ์ เมื่อเกิดตัวอ่อนแล้วพ่อแม่จะตายตกลงในน้ำเป็นอาหารของปลา นับเป็นวัฎจักรให้ประโยชน์ต่อมนุษย์ นอกจากจะบรรยากาศร่มรื่นแล้ว พวกกระรอกก็เยอะด้วยค่ะ กระโดดเกาะกิ่งนั้นกระโดดเกาะกิ่งนี้อย่างสนุกสนาน
