In June last year, Thailand opened its borders to all travelers for the first time in nearly three years. Then Thailand, almost, sort of, kind of legalized marijuana.

On January 7th, 2023 the Thailand Government stated that from 9th January. All travelers entering the country must be fully vaccinated.

On January 9th, 2023 the Thailand Government then announced that the previous decision had been reversed. Meaning, all travelers regardless of their Covid19 vaccination status could enter the country with no restrictions

If you found yourself stuck at an airport during this time anxiously hitting refresh in the hope that the rumor you just heard was true. Then, you do have my deepest sympathies.

Several times during the height of the Covid19 pandemic I found myself in the unenviable situation of traveling to the airport, not knowing if I would be able to board my plane that day,

Cannabis in Thailand is it legal?

Well, the answer to that question is yes and no, but, mostly yes.

Today the Bangkok Post published the news that locals and foreigners will soon be required to show proof of identification when buying their marijuana in Thailand.

Is this the Thai government making sure it gets all of its tax payments for the reported 7,000 cannabis-related businesses now operating in the kingdom of Thailand?

As far as the legalization of marijuana in Thailand is concerned. We are in for an interesting few months. As the legal use of weed has become a political football in the upcoming Thailand general election, With one party seeing the advantages of the recent cannabis cash crop and the other party wanting to make marijuana the "demon drug" it was last May before its almost legalization in June.

As someone who is currently enjoying the freedom that the legalization of cannabis in Thailand. I am eagerly keeping track of this situation.
