Vologda night tale
In our city the real summer weather came. A few years ago, these days I sent my wife and child to rest in Turkey and went with a friend on my very first trip towards the Russian north. This amazing journey gave us a huge number of new sensations, a large number of photos and emotions.
I remember that in those days the weather was exactly the same. It was the beginning of summer.
The journey from Kostroma towards Arkhangelsk was a long one. Nevertheless, the distance had to be traveled very large and try not to miss a large number of interesting places.
One of the first cities we visited was the city of Vologda. Since then I have been there more than once, as it is a beautiful city with a rich history. There is something to see and what to visit.
Just think, the city of Vologda could become the capital of Russia. This was not destined to happen because of a piece of plaster that fell on the head of the king. Of course, this is a myth, but still, in this story there is also a rational kernel.
The large St. Sophia Cathedral in Vologda was built for the Tsar, and judging by the size and grandeur of the cathedral, it was a metropolitan building.
Our trip to the Russian north began quite late. While we gathered, while we completed all the important matters, it was already far after lunch. But nothing could stop me.
The road beckoned me forward to adventure. We quickly reached Yaroslavl. Roads in those days were not of very good quality. In some places I had to drive slowly.
From Yaroslavl to Vologda there were about 200 kilometers. This is not a lot, but taking into account the traffic situation and high-speed mode, we drove a very long time. In Vologda we were already at night.
Vologda was beautiful. Daytime heat gave way to night coolness. The ancient temples of Vologda plunged into the heavenly blue. It was quiet and deserted. The first impression of the city was simply amazing.
The first thing we went to St. Sophia Cathedral. The large square in front of the cathedral was empty. I took out a tripod and mounted a camera on it. Shooting in low light is a big job. When the shutter speed does not allow you to hold the camera in your hands, you have to use a tripod and be careful and cautious.
Then we found ourselves on the banks of the Vologda River of the same name. Crosses of temples were reflected in the quiet waters of this river. It was epic.
From the right bank of the river where St. Sophia Cathedral stands, a church was visible on the left bank. The church stood directly opposite the cathedral. This is one of the oldest stone buildings in Vologda. The church is called the Church in the name of St. John Chrysostom. Date of construction - 1664. Before that, there was a wooden church in that place. Chronicles tell us this.
While we were photographing a small fog formed over the river. All this was like in a fairy tale.
I still remember this story with pleasure.
